Akari Matsubara who finished in the 2nd place was the winner of novice national B four years ago. At that time, Marin was the 2nd and Wakaba was the 3rd. She is showing great improvements in this season.

Thank you for the video! Wow she brought back that gorgeous You Raise Me Up number....all the feels. I think Shizuka retired prematurely...given that she is a much better skater now than when she won the gold medal! But then again, it's obvious her true calling is show skating...she smiles so freely in shows as compared to during her competition skates.

I think this video has already been posted somewhere but just in case you haven't seen it, it's from when Shizuka was still pregnant and how she got back into shape for PIW shows in just 4 months after returning to practice.
And she looked even better another 4months later at FOI.

If I have counted correctly, Japan have 11 skaters, 7 events and so 14 spots. 4 skaters have had spots over the first 2 events. So there are 10 spots to use and only 7 skaters still to have their first JGP. 3 spots are there to be taken by those who do best, I would assume, in order to have a second event. Sota, barring disaster, will be one. Who will be the other two...?

Koshiro still has the chance for remaining events. No one is really competitive except Sota. Let's pray that mens subs (Taichi, Kamata, et al) don't sneak into 6th or higher.

Congratulations to Sota on the bronze medal and for landing his first 4T in competition! He must be disappointed but this might be better (especially for my poor heart) than starting the season off with 2 perfect skates. Now he can only improve and peak at the end of the season. I hope he can make it to JGPF, but if he doesn't, he can concentrate for Nationals and he may even get a spot at 4CC like Shoma did last season.
Anyway, congratulations to all the medalists. How is his head so tiny?

I thnk Mitsuki had a good JGP debut. Not much personality yet and zero connection with the audience, but hopefully he'll open up more in the future and crack a smile or two Very admirable that he worked around the pop on the 1st loop. He seems very calm and cool-headed for a 14yo.

First time for me to watch Yuna Shiraiwa skate and found her as delightful as Coach Hamada's other students. Too bad about the unexpected fall. I liked Cathy Reed's choreography too.
I wasn't expecting Marin to do so well at her first JGP. What a nice surprise to wake up to. Good luck to both ladies tomorrow!

whoa I thought Nathan was taller (probably because he looked big on the ice), and yeah Sota has a tiny head and a long neck just like Yuzu , in that costume he looks like a little prince even more and I like it. I also hope Sota can make going to JGPF ! Go Sota!!
Mitsuki has a room for improving on his expression since he is only 14.

About Marin and Yuna-S, it’s great starts for them, both of them were surprisingly lovely with their skates. I love their balletic style mature skating. I so hope they do well tomorrow.

Marin was lovely. I didn't expect she went for 3Lo-3T. Marin might also have 10 varieties of 3-3 like Yuna S? She already did 3Lz-3T, 3F-3T, 3Lo-3T, 3S-3T and 3Lz+3Lo at competition. She tried 3F-3Lo, 3Lo-3Lo at shows during this off season. There are 3S-3Lo on news clip and 3S-3T-3Lo on her IG. I've never seen or heard of 3T-3T, but I don't think she can't. You can find her 3S-1Lo-3F and 3F-1Lo-3S on her IG, too.
Anyway, I'm glad she did clean SP at JGP debut.

I was also looking forward to watch Yuna skate. She is cute and promising, too. I'm also looking forward to her 3S-3Lo in her FS.
Mie Hamada really has lots of promising girls. Also happy to know Cathy's second career seems to be going well.

He might get a chance of going to 4CC and JW if he does well at Japanese National. However, Youth Olympic is another factor this season. It's conflict with 4CC.

About his costume, this costume maker lists Sota's FS costume as theirs. The same maker as some of Yuzuru and Akiko's (besides many others).

I noticed that when I was looking at his 5 pops in the FS…:hopelessness: Maybe he's not a 2nd 3T jumper either. It would be interesting if he can repeat the 3Lz-3Lo next week.

He surely can go to 4CC and JW if he does well at Japanese National. However, Youth Olympic is another factor this season. It's conflict with 4CC.

What a shame about the conflict. But then, he may not even make it on the 4CC team even if he wanted to, so why am I worrying about it now?

I think it's 3 spots per discipline every year for 4CC (but someone please correct me if I'm wrong).
