Skaters on Team Japan

Yamato Tamura is beside Taichi, and Takeshi Honda is beside Shu Nakamura.

These scenes just give me some nostalgia as I know them when they were competitive skaters and rivals.

I think the performance of Taichi and Shu was not satisfactory to them, but the season has just begun. Keep fighting :cheer:

EDIT:

They are so cute

Plus :p

I like Mitsuki's skating. The commentator said he has potential. I agree.

Here is a clip from a tv show about Miyu Honda (Younger sister of Marin) who is a figure skater as well as a famous child actress of Japan. It shows her performance from the 42nd West Japan Elementary Figure Skating Championships, her first competition as a novice A skater. It also shows the beginning of her journey to Russia recieve lessons from Plushenko. Her lesson with Plushenko, meeting with her "rival" Polina (A fellow 11yr old skater from Russia) and meeting with Sotnikova will be broadcasted next week.

(Her performace starts around the 5:41 mark)

Glad to see her finally land 3S. Her other triples are a bit underrotated. I do love her spins though.

I'm relieved to see men's results. Koshiro still has the chance!

i am kinda relieved too but at the same time i feel really bad for these young skaters  all i can do is wish the best to them! any news on entry changes?

A belated congratulations to Mai on her 2nd silver! She'll probably make it to JGPF? Until then, I hope she continues to work on the suspicious edge on the lutz. And congratulations to Wakaba on getting her 3lz-3lo and 3lz-3t ratified. It's a shame that she bombed the SP and her FS was mediocre overall but I hope she gets to keep her 2nd assignment even if she's lost her chance to go to JGPF this year. I think she earned it for herself last season.
I don't know what to say about the men… But at least Koshiro still has a chance. I wonder when the final entry deadline for JGP Croatia is because there are still 3 more substitutes to skate, but would they let Yamakuma or Kishina skate 2 weeks in a row IF they place higher than 6th?
Oh, I liked the dance team, Fukase/Tateno. They were really cute.

This photographer has been posting some pictures from previous JGPs as well.
Mitsuki is able to smile!

For Yamato fans

For SuzyQ
I wonder if we'll see something like this in the future with Nobu and... Miki? Akiko? Mao? with their students

Good luck to Kanako and Satoko and Keiji and Shoma at US Int'l Classic and Miyu at Lombardia Trophy this week!

Congrats Mai!!
As for Kanako, Satoko, Keiji, Shome and Miyu, I hope they do well and all the best!! :cheer:

Thank you mikaboo :yay:

I'm expecting Takahito Mura becoming a good coach.

Yuzuru mastered his 4T during his jump battle with Mura in the practice/off time at shows.
Shoma was advised by Takahito to try quad jumps when he was struglling with 3A.
I have read some other episodes about Takahito's advices to junior skaters.

Anyway It's so good to know figure skating in Japan will keep its history for sure :agree:

Thanks for the information.
I've been enjoying watching some of the new dance teams at local competitions in Canada and at JGP. I hope they don't quit before they become senior.

How could I have forgotten about Takahito. He also gave advice to Yuka Nagai on the 3A at training camp

Congratulations to Miyu for coming in 3rd at Lombardia Trophy.

I like her SP a lot, the music suits her energy. Hopefully she'll get at least another int'l competition assigned since it's unlikely she'll get a 2nd GP event.

Oh, and Congratulations to Keiji on his silver medal at US Int'l Classic! :yay: Both programs were still far from perfect, but at least he's starting to not fall on the 4S. Apparently he can land beautiful ones during practice so maybe it'll show up in competition one day...

Thanks for all the links. From postings on Instagram I can see what a fun-loving person Miyu is and that SP suits her well.

This uploader has just uploaded videos of the Japanese broadcast of JGP in the U.S. Here and here. A crying Sota at the end...

^Sota's interview was heartbreaking, but he has nothing to cry about really. He landed a 4T and a 3A in a single program! Doesn't this make him the the youngest Japanese man to land a quad in an ISU competition? Hopefully he'll skate well next week and even if he can't make it to the JGPF, he can concentrate on Nationals. There's no way he won't make the JW team, who else is there? (sad situation though)

He had set a goal to beat Nathan Chen but if Nathan keeps skating like he did in Colorado Springs, it's going to be difficult to catch up with him. He should focus on his own achievements (landing 4T and 3A in the same program) and stop comparing himself to others.

No wonder Sota is a big Yuzuru fan as if I remember correctly sometimes Yuzuru said that when he was young that he had set a goal (as one of his goals) to beat Patrick Chan?

Though I agree with you.

Yuzuru learned in 2013 to concentrate and focus on his own performance (which resulted in him winning GPF/OGM). Below is an excerpt of his interview on this.

Hanyu also revealed that the experience of competing with Chan helps him stay focused.

“During the Olympic season, I couldn’t beat Chan at all during the Grand Prix series, and I lost myself,” Hanyu acknowledged. “I kept thinking ‘I must beat him, I must beat him’ but I couldn’t focus on my own performance and as a result, I got beaten by huge gap. Since then, I have learned to concentrate on my own condition and stay focused.”

By the way, Seeing promising young (boy) skaters in TJ these days I got curious and wanted to know what about their great senior skaters skating when they were in their teens.
So I searched for some videos when they were 15~17 years old at youtube as much as I could. Wonder if there are some differences or not.

Yamato Tamura (田村岳斗) (5 28,1979) - 1997 NHK Trophy - SP : I couldn’t find a good quality video when he was 15~17. So he was 18 in it.

Takeshi Honda (本田武史) (3 23,1981) - 1996 Skate America, Men's Free Skate

Daisuke Takahashi (高橋大輔) (3 16,1986)- 2001 JN Daisuke Takahashi FS

Nobunari Oda (織田信成) (3 25,1987) - 007 2005 Jr world SP : Again, I couldn’t find a good quality video when he was 15~17.

Takahiko Kozuka (小塚崇彦) (2 27,1989) - 2004 Japanese Nationals LP

Tatsuki Machida (町田 樹) (3 9,1990) - "Swan Lake". [2007]

Yuzuru Hanyu (羽生結弦) (12 7,1994) - 2010 World Juniors short program

Shoma Uno (宇野晶磨) (12 17,1997) - 2013 World Junior Championships LP

Sota Yamamoto (山本草太) (1 10,2000) - 2015 World Junior Championships. Junior Men FS

Please let me know if I had something mistakes. (All the birthday information were form wiki.)

Thanks for this, Yuzuru is great to be his role model for sure.

Thanks for the list! It'll be fun to watch and compare them all.
I think Mura and Dice deserve to be on the list too :)

Takahito Mura (無良崇人) (11.02.1991) - 2006 Junior Nationals FS

Daisuke Murakami (村上大介) (15.01.1991) - 2008 Nationals SP

ETA:
Shoma's name is 昌磨, not 晶磨

yhmafan, thank you for all the links to the programs.

Here's an HD version of Daisuke Takahashi's 2001 Nationals FS
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jY5w6Fkeurw

He landed his first 4T in competition at the age of 17 at the 2004 4CC, followed by a 4T-3T combination at the 2004 Worlds.

A video of Shoma Uno's FS at the 2012 Jr Worlds (in my opinion his best free program to date)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt1GnmKwNQg
Shoma landed his first 4T and 3A at the age of 16.

A video of Tatsuki Machida's SP at the 2007 Jr Worlds
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es6vY3hpvTw
Tatsuki landed his first 4T in competition at the age of 20 at the 2010 Nebelhorn Trophy.

Yamato Tamura was 20 when he landed a 4T in competition and 21 when he landed a 4T-3T combination.

At the age of 14, Takeshi Honda was the youngest senior national champion in Japan ever. He used to train in Canada and his coach was Doug Leigh, who also had Brian Orser as one of his students. He is the first Japanese man to land a quad in competition. He landed his first 4T and 4S at the age of 15, although not in competition. He later tried and landed the 4Lz. At the 2003 4CC he landed three quads in his FS.
