Skaters on Team Japan

Sorry to be late. These days my days were busy!:drama:

the chinese character "信" means truth, sincerity, belief, proof, etc. http://okjiten.jp/kanji393.html .

On a different note, his ancestor is said to be a famous Japanese load in 16th century “ODA Nobunaga(織田(family name) 信長(first name)” . To see nobu’s first name “信成” and his nephews’ 信義, I thought Oda family needs a chinese character 信 in their names.
for the ancestor, Nobu’s nickname is “tono(殿)”, which means lord.

You sound like a busy lady, but better to be busy than bored! :) Oh my goodness, I don't know how you all learn all the characters. It seems like a mystery and seems SO hard! My head gets tired just thinking about it! :bed:

So we can't refer to Yuzuru jokingly as Tono? Rats.

Hey, sharing is caring. Especially with your bff.
 for the past years tono was nobu.

Thank you for your kind words. :) I must have dispatched our parcel for Europe last week, and the work exhausted me very much. ..
We are used to chinese characters since we are children, so I don’t think learning them is difficult, but it may seem to be so to foreigners. Further, each character has several readings and it changes per to the combination of other characters. it must be so complicated. :drama:

Think I answered my own question about where Narumi and Ryo are training. Don't see any photos but I'm pretty sure (from their ameblo) they're at the Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva, Illinois - about 30 miles from Chicago. The director of the school / rink is Rockne Brubaker who is a former U.S. pairs skater. http://fvia.us/

Thanks for the information. I wonder who they are coached by. I don't know why they haven't announced it :scratch2: or maybe I just missed it.

Nobu’s sons’ names are Shintaro (信太郎) and Shinnosuke (信之介) but looking at his family tree that was shown on TV, not everyone had 信 in their names. What will they do if they have a girl?

It must have been hard for you to prepare for your move in this heat. I hope everything goes smoothly for you and your hubby.

I haven't seen it either but was wondering if maybe it's Rockne Brubaker, at least for now. Uh oh, time to pay a visit to the rink!!!

That's right! You are getting ready for your move to the Czech Republic! Jobs like that can be very overwhelming (and exhausting!). And if the weather is hot, that is very tiring too. Best of luck with all of that. What an adventure.

Thank you for the interesting information on Nobu. Last night I found myself watching several of his crying videos. I love him so much! I wish he would come to Skate America to do some television work.

I had a friend whose name was信子, but I cant think up any other female name including 信. Anyway, a new child is a very good news. :)

Thanks. This hot and humid climate is robbing me of my stamina….althogh I would definitely love to THE ICE at Nagoya if my works are settled. :gaah:

Thanks. Anyway, I must take very humble experience with their culture and language as you say. I don’t know what will be there before me, but all the challenge make me excited.:drama:

I truly adore Nobu! In his competitor days, he must have gone through several unreasonable things, but now he’s popular as a newscaster, commentator, etc. Of course, he keeps challenging himself with his skating as a professional skater and showing us his new genre. I have mad respect to him.:)

Im totally late for the DOI party! Yesterday, I could watch the video at last! :party2:

- LOVE Satoko's new ex. It suits her and she looks mature there. I don't know why she doesn't just make it her new SP (with a little music cut here and there, it is possible) rather than whatever classical stuff she might be doing.
- Also, I love Mura's program esp the Stsq part
- When I heard Koshiro is doing R&J, I expect it to be more of Cohen rather than Hanyu's RJ1 but turns out it is the latter, even down to the music cuts in the early part.
- Marin's new SP is kind of similar to her previous one (Spring Sonata) but I guess it suits her since it is a youthful and dreamy program just like her previous SP so I'll live with it. Hope she'll do something else once she matures or debuts in senior, though.
- Gorgeous ex from Wakaba, she seems to mature artistically too.

As mikaboo says, totally agree! :) With Marin’s new sp, she says it is the music that she’s not good at, since the melody line has not much ups and downs and sounds plain, she feels difficult to interpret this piece, but she thinks it’s her challenge. True, this lovely piece seems to fit for Marin, but it has the risk that it might make some people bored. I want to watch over this program this season.

Really impressed with Mura and how confident he looks with his program, considering how early it is in the season. Kudos to choreographer Massimo Scali. I can even live with the costume! :hpull:

Glad to know you seem to get over his costume obsession.:agree: i want to shout that I loooove this coreo! Massimo Scali is terrific and did a truly nice job for Mura! Thanks!

Y
Mura looked good at DOI last year as well. He was one of my favorites there and I was really looking forward to the season, then Skate America happened :dbana: Hopefully he'll stay injury free this season. Please skating gods, let them all be injury free!

I really like what Massimo Scali has been doing with Keiji and Mura. I think he did Mai Mihara's SP last season too.

Agree. I remember we discussed Mura’s peaking program last summer. he was good around summer show season, and then his condition went down… Yes, I just hope his health and peaking! I have true respect to him, since he showed his strong will that he would keep his career till 2018 and says he wants to catch up younger skaters although he's senior to them. And I love team Mura! Including Jin-Seo, they are a lovely team.

I want to Mai's SP by Massimo.

I'm not a specialist as for this, but I think it relates with the son and heir. It may depend on the family, but there were cases in older days, the first son has the specific kanji character as the heir. If the first son could not take over the house, or there was no son in the family and they had to adopt someone from, say, collateral relatives as the heir of the house, there might be cases that the boy/man did not have that kanji character. (And, changing names was easier than now, they might have changed their names to use that kanji.) In some families, all the men have the kanji in their names.

Actually, my mother's family uses 昌 (read sho or masa) for boys, and my grandpa, uncle (my mother's brother), and cousin have that kanji in their names. I don't know from when, or the specific reason already, and my uncle just says "It's a family tradition." Apparently he does not know either  They are farmers for generations, not samurai or prestigious family, by the way ;) My cousin has not married yet, but when he has a boy child and if his wife-to-be does not like the idea to use that kanji, there is a possibility the family tradition might be broken

Anyway, the ancestor of Nobunari is too great to forget or ignore. I think Oda family give their sons the name with 信 with a great pride. I heard Nobunari's father actually tried to name his son 信長 Nobunaga, exactly the same name as their great ancestor, and his mother stopped her husband anxiously, being afraid that their son might be teased or bullied by other children. When I first saw Nobunari's name in a newspaper as the domestic junior champion, I thought his father or mother must be a big fan of ODA Nobunaga (found out later he is a descendant). The name 織田 + 信 has such an impact in Japan.

Very anxious to see Massimo's choreography for Mai. I really hope she does well at Skate America and doesn't get overwhelmed with nerves! She is a lovely skater. Massimo is producing some wonderful programs. He has done great work with the Shibutanis. I still remember him sharing in the Shibs' joy in the Kiss and Cry this past year when they won their first gold at the U.S. Nationals. I hope we will be seeing a lot more of his work in the future.

Thank you for your long explanation!
I cant help but smile this episode! i didnt know his father had tried to put the name of 信長 actually to his son!

Yeah, I didn’t think they’d force the kanji onto a girl if they have a daughter. I love the old fashioned names they have for their sons though. They’re old fashioned, that they’re kind of “new”.
Good luck making it to The ICE in Nagoya. You’ll get to see Mao’s new SP if you do! I hope The ICE comes to the Kanto area one day.

Thanks to SuzyQ for the explanation!

Sorry if I wasn’t clear. Massimo did Mai’s Rondo Capriccioso and Kaori Sakamoto’s The Color Purple last season. I don’t know if he worked with either of them this season.
Mai skated to the movie soundtrack of Cinderella at an exhibition recently so people are predicting that is her new FS.

Dice Murakami revealed his new programs.

He’s keeping the SP, Bring Him Home, and his FS is Pagliacci by Andrea Bocelli
Both are choreographed by Lori Nichol.

I love Andrea Bocelli. Looking forward to seeing Dice's new LP. But I miss the last season's LP at the same time. It was great for his skating.

Mai will debut at SA! she may get nurvous, but hope she can do it well there.
to see Mura's coreo, Massimo's sense of music is unique and he draws a skater's attraction and make him look well. I want to see his work more.
Shibus last year were truly wonderful with two beautiful programs. Personally I love their smooth skating and sweet characters. I hope they can keep current position in US.

Thanks! especially im fond of Mai's program. I hope he keeps working with some of Japanese girls.
Mai is pretty and has a speed. Other than major junior ladies like wakaba and marin, i love both yuna so much. but to see her now and i find she's lovely!

As Suzy Q says, i feel a bit sad i cant see a beautiful Yoshiki' piece, since it really matches figure skating and Dice expressed well that lylical world. of course, cant wait his new fs! Go, dice!:hap10:
