Skaters on Team Japan

Congrats on Kazuki's and Koshiro's respectable 9th and 14th place finishes at Junior Worlds in a pretty deep field. I'm rooting for them to be able to step up their game next season. In these crazy times Koshiro urgently needs a 3A and a stable quad asap to be competitive. :drama:

Thanks to Kazuki and Koshiro, Japan retains 2 WJC spots for Jr. Men next season. Kazuki's placement also increased their JGP spots by one (total of 7) and put Japan in the mix for unused spots.

Congratulations to Rikako and Aru on their new PBs. As a result of their 13th place finish Japan has acquired 6 JGP Ice Dance spots for next season. It's been announced that Rikako and Aru will be moving up to Seniors so we'll probably be seeing a few new couples making their JGP debut. Twitter posters have already noticed ISU bios have been created for current Novice ID teams Utana Yoshida/Takumi Sugiyama and Mai Kashino/Yuhi Kashino.

Nice WJC debut for Riku and Shoya. They were disappointed with their FS performance but seemed to have executed their SP quite well. Looking forward to seeing how their skills develop now that Shoya has retired from Men's singles to commit to Pair skating exclusively. Wishing them a successful partnership.

And Congratulations to the amazing Ladies! :clapper:

Great fight by Yuna, skating two solid programs and placing 5th overall while not being in her best condition. Hope she gets a lot of rest and feels better soon.

So happy for Kaori and her podium finish! I just knew she was going to skate strong at WJC.

And Marin definitely chose the right competition to skate two clean programs. Although she was unable to retain her title, I feel she has shown herself capable of delivering under tremendous pressure and proved that her win last season was no fluke. Congratulations for breaking 200 and on her 2nd place finish!

If only the attention could be split a bit more evenly among the top Japanese ladies. IMO they're all so talented and charming in their own way.:luv17:

The list of figure skaters JSF will be supporting next season has been released. Like this past season, I'm assuming some changes may be made after GP and JGP assignments are announced.

Rika Hongo still in the "special" list! I was afraid for her...
Actually I'm still afraid that this season may be crucial "make or break" for her in JSF eyes...

Sota Yamamoto and Daisuke Murakami both dropped to "B" :-/
They both dropped from "Special" to "A" last year, but at least they still have support.
Hopefully they can be injury-free next season and climb the ladder again.

I am very sad to see that Yuka Nagai and Yuna Aoki were both dropped altogether... ;_;

Yuka went from "special" list last year, to no JSF support at all this year? Not even "B"? That's quite a kick in the teeth, unless JSF knows something we don't? (eg. has she talked about retiring or something?).

Kaori Sakamoto and Mai Mihara went from "B" last year, to "special" this year... their outstanding results are being rewarded!

That Hiroaki Sato makes the 'A' list shows that team Japan is severely lacking in up and coming young male skaters. -Though I adore Hiroaki and am so glad he's getting the funding, he deserves it for sure. I do hope that Sota can finally come back to skating fully healthy. I really enjoyed his skating.
-Daisuke Murakami too. Does he get any Grand Prix assignments?

Rika Kihira had no JSF support last year, so they are at least giving her some recognition.

I'm sure she will receive more if she delivers more consistent results this season, and/or is in the top 6 at junior nationals (ie. reaches senior nationals this time).
 
Does anyone know who will/might get jgp assignment next season? It's hard to even find the birth dates of some of the young skaters.

That, and I don't know if I'm the only one, but I miss Haruka Imai. Her skating was lovely to watch. I wonder if she has retired?
 
The supporting list is basically based on the result of national, national junior and some international results now.

Special: National podium (Also for Worlds team and Junior worlds podium)

A: National top 8, National junior podium

B: National top 12, National junior top 8

Sota, Daisuke & Rika (Kihira) was listed in "B" without national results. (Sota and Daisuke was injured and miss the season/ Rika just had a bad competition) :thumbsup:

Yuna Aoki and Mako Yamashita still have chance to back to the "B" list. They need to perform well in JGP selection meeting.:hap10:

JGP selection meeting will normally held late June. Just wonder who will make to JGP team. So many potential names...especially in ladies :confused:

As many of you have already heard, the Japanese Olympic Committee is holding a three day camp for national team hopefuls for the upcoming Winter Olympics. Posting since I was pleasantly surprised to see a bunch of unexpected faces. Figure skaters that I have spotted in video clips of day 1 activities include Yuzuru, Shoma, Keiji, Mura, Dice, Sota, Ryuju, Hiroaki, Kazuki, Mitsuki, Satoko, Rika H., Wakaba, Mai, Marin, Kaori, Yuna S., Miu and Ryuichi, and Kana and Chris.

I was sooo happy to see Sota in the pictures! The first time I almost thought it was an old picture haha. I really hope to see him back next season, the rumors about him removing skater from some of his online profiles or whatever were super worrying to me.
