Hello everyone!
I hope all is well. With some minor knee aches and pains I've been getting back into this sport and with that comes my question.
I got a new comp dress, from an eBay seller, the dress is actually very pretty and well made, but the skirt is not to my liking...
its too long and has that akward U shape on the sides. Its not the best looking esp. with the longer skirt. ( I prefer shorter to elongate my legs.)
- So my question is, can I just cut the skirt to where I want it to go, or should i take it to someone to alter it for me?
I've looked at dress making tutorials and it looks like they just cut the fabric // but I don't want to ruin the dress lol
thoughts? questions? ask/ answer away <3
anything is appreciated.

Get someone to professionally alter it. It's more than cutting it.

Let a professional seamstress do it, preferably one with experience in skating costumes. The material is more difficult to work with than it appears, and a DIY hem could end up as a little turned-up roll all the way around.

It's also impossible to measure the length while you're wearing it, especially if the hemline is not even, as you describe. Cut it too short, or at an angle, and there goes the money you spent on it.

Perfect! thank you for letting me know, anywhere i searched or looked it wouldn't show them hemming the skirt just cutting it, so this helps me a-lot <3
