Gosh that was a long read
. Only two things I will add here :1) I wouldn't compare single skaters layouts to ice dance. Very different ballgame. It's not even about movements. I don't care if some teams repeat their rotational lift year after year. It's about styles for me and as performers, especially if we are going to imply that there is some artistic side in figure skating, exploration of other styles of music and choreography is what makes a skater grow.
2) Many skaters have done many different styles successfully. Virtue-Moir, Davis-White, Gilles-Poirier, and so many others (just the first three that came to my 7am without coffee mind - I won't bother naming single skaters here). Yet, at IAM, there are definitely teams that will only do one type of programs : I have mentioned Fear-Gibson already and often referred to as the Disco-Brits, but look at Reed-Ambrulevicius and their techno free dances, and now, I guess we have the FremEnigma.
Conclusion : I am fine with it in the sense that skaters need to do what they can to win. That's all good. As a fan though, I get bored easily when things become very predictable. Call me picky if you wish. That's fine. However having Dune 1 and Dune 2 back to back and then, this, that's for me the Straw that broke my Flying Camel spin's back.
