Can SA be grandfathered in? I mean it's possible that if the age limit increase goes to 16 or the the following year 17 that would really hurt Sofia. Because she was born after July 1st with that ridiculous half year birthday rule that killed Nastyas career in Russia that means Sofias 1st senior season she would be 18 years old and have spent 5 freaking seasons in juniors. Lol. A travesty. Isabeau Levito who's only 4 and a 1/2 months older than Sofia would be starting her 4th senior season while Sofia begins her first senior season. Macy please tell me I have messed up these numbers because that can't happen. Skating juniors from age 13 to 17 encompassing 5 seasons would not be good for someone's development to say the least especially a skater as incredible and talented as SA who has never even lost as a junior.if the age limit raise passes shouldn't she be fine? the proposal states the age wouldn't actually be raised until 23-24 and will stay the same next season. the skaters who turn senior next year will be "grandfathered" in, so we really won't see the full effect of the age raising for several years.
I don't even want to make the calculationCan SA be grandfathered in? I mean it's possible that if the age limit increase goes to 16 or the the following year 17 that would really hurt Sofia. I see this girl smiling all the time so I hope she's really happy. her career is literally at a standstill. Sofia only skated a few events this season that's not good for her development either.
It's just incredible that the most gifted girl ever in figure skating by 13 or 14 could be a prisoner in juniors for four or five freaking seasons. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad and if she was born on June 30th this would be her first senior season. We can only hope incompetent Russian Federation can somehow get it together and talkl the isu into grandfathering SA in. If they wanted to raise the age limit to 16 this next Olympic cycle and then 17 after the following Olympic cycle that would be one thing but I think they're going to jump to 17 within a year which means Sofia would not skate senior eligible until she's 18 years old and that would be the next Olympic season. She has already spent two years in Juniors and never been beaten no one has even gotten close to her and she would have probably won junior worlds easily this season it's just ridiculous what she faces in her career partly because of that stupid birthday rule. Yes seeing Isabeau skate next season as a senior but no Sofia we will be robbed although Levito is a pleasure to watch. She's only four months older than Sofia but she's getting all the breaks and I'm sure you noticed that the ISU did not raise the age limit until after Levito turned 15 the next Great American hope for ladies.I don't even want to make the calculation
Every day she won't be senior I will be robbed of something magnificent
It's all ridiculous. And if Russia is still banned, it won't matter anyway. Isabeau is my favourite non-Russian skater but I still haven't watched ridiculous junior worlds without Russians. Sofia is my champion. It's just incredible that the most gifted girl ever in figure skating by 13 or 14 could be a prisoner in juniors for four or five freaking seasons. I hope Sofia stays strong. All the greats in figure skating never spend more than two seasons as a junior now this girl faces possibly 5 seasons as a junior.
You summed it it's all ridiculous. Russians careers literally hanging the balance with the ISU as the henchmen. Isabeau wont have to skate against Sofia for years and they are only a few months apart in age. Unreal. Sofia is undefeated as a junior. I fear she will get bored. It's all ridiculous. If she shows a middle finger to everyone and pursues another career choice, we shouldn't be much surprised. But it would be devastating, I just hope she loves figure skating so much she wouldn't give up.Sofia is undefeated as a junior. I fear she will get bored.
She will skate. But if opportunities arent there it will be impossible to max out her incredible potential. And skating just Russian cup juniors won't do it for SA. The world needs to see her.If she shows a middle finger to everyone and pursues another career choice, we shouldn't be much surprised. If the proposal that is made goes through, Sofia won't be senior until the next Olympic season 25-26.if the age limit raise passes shouldn't she be fine? the proposal states the age wouldn't actually be raised until 23-24 and will stay the same next season. the skaters who turn senior next year will be "grandfathered" in, so we really won't see the full effect of the age raising for several years.
A new SA fan here...If the proposal that is made goes through, Sofia won't be senior until the next Olympic season 25-26.
The age cut off will be the same next season - Sofia misses out with 7 days.
The next season they raise the age limit to sixteen - Sofia misses out with 7 days.
The next season they raise the age limit to seventeen - Sofia misses out with 7 days.
Then the next season will be the Olympic season - and then Sofia will be senior eligible.
Welcome to Golden Skate. Post often.A new SA fan here...
well...I guess on the up side, she will not be one of the older skaters at the Olympics (if she qualifies).
Also, since there's only one spot avail for Russia in the upcoming season at the World Championships (if Team Russia is allowed to skate), perhaps it's for the best that she's still a junior as currently she's head and shoulders above the rest of the field. If she competes in the senior level, the competition is more fierce for that ONE spot? Just trying to stay positive in this unfortunate situation...
