SOI Japan Tour 2025 | April 2025

It's also possible that Kazuki's participation is not very big + he's not as famous as Mao and Dai so they thought it wasn't worth it a mention?

They are saying that the most likely scenario is that, as the group number started being choreographed, they realised it would look better with a fourth person, and probably reached out to the 'pinch hitter god' as a late addition. This tracks with his reputation of being a quick learner and very adaptable, someone that KanaDai know they can trust ☺️

I had this thought... maybe this is some kind of "double duet" where Kazuki skates with "his big sister" Kana, while Mao is teamed up with Dai? ☺️

Well, we'll find out soon...

Meanwhile, here is the complete MBS SOI special, which was focused on Mao (but also includes brief interviews with Kaori, Riku/Ryuichi, little Mao and the segment about the "mystery" collaboration):

That would make sense, and maybe the number is more focused on Mao/Dai so that's why the promo is focused on them. Still, it would be nice to have some clarity! From a perspective of a Kazuki stan, even a small participation in a number like that is already a big deal!

Video on Mao and Dai and their participation in SOI! It shows a longer version of their collaboration together
with Kana on the ice in her choreographer role. Mao's ice rink is gorgeous.

Stars on Ice' in Osaka and Hokkaido, including collaborative numbers by Mao Asada, Daisuke Takahashi and others.

The ice show ‘STARS ON ICE JAPAN TOUR 2025’ will be held on 5 and 6 April at the Towa RACTAB Dome in Osaka and on 12 and 13 April at the Sapporo Tsukisamu Gymnasium skating rink in Hokkaido.
STARS ON ICE is an ice show that started in North America. It features top stars of the figure skating world, including Olympic medallists and World champions. Guest skaters for this show include Mao Asada and the pair of Kana Muramoto and Daisuke Takahashi. The regular cast also includes Satoko Miyahara.
It has been nine years since Asada appeared on STARS ON ICE. The collaboration number "Silhouette" featuring Asada and Takahashi will also be performed this time, and the performance will revolve around the theme of "their past and present". On the occasion of the performance/collaboration, Asada said: "This time is really special. This may be the only time we get to do this. I hope it will be a wonderful time, putting my heart and soul into every moment."
The Osaka performance will be broadcast live on TBS Channel 2's Masterpiece Drama, Sports and Animation from 11:55 on 6 April.

From the Japanese fans reaction, it seems like the group number will include the four of them, as she says 'the four of us', and it would make no sense to mention his name if it was just being on the same show together. As you know, I love Kazuki, but it's not like he's from the same generation or has the same legend status as the other three! Fans were also surprised Mao calls him 'Kazuki' and not 'Tomono-kun', which implies a certain familiarity, as if they are working directly together.

But yes, it would be nice to have an official announcement!

Finally the veil has been lifted! :)

Mao Asada & Daisuke Takahashi, the dream team, talk about each other: the past and present of these extraordinary skaters
[April 2, 2025, 7:59am]
The past and present of these legendary skaters intersect. The figure skating ice show "Stars on Ice Japan Tour 2025" will be held on the 5th and 6th at the Towa Yakuhin RACTAB Dome in Osaka. Mao Asada (34) will be appearing in the world's top show for the first time in nine years. She will be performing a special collaborative number with Daisuke Takahashi (39) and others. From their days as athletes to professionals. We sneaked into the practice where they were creating a piece with the theme of time, and talked to them about each other.
★ Choreography by Muramoto of "Kanadai"
In March, the main rink at "MAO RINK" in Tachikawa, Tokyo was heating up. The rink, which opened last November, was in the middle of a public session. In the center of the ice, Asada, who produced the entire facility, and Takahashi, with pink-dyed hair, exchanged opinions with gestures and continued skating. Next to them was Muramoto Kana, who was Takahashi's partner in ice dancing as "Kanadai" during their competitive days. The sudden appearance of the gorgeous trio left visitors skating around them in amazement.
They had started working on the piece before the scheduled private time afterwards. That alone shows the enthusiasm they put into it. ‘Wasn't that beautiful?’ The work continued to be checked many times, including the lift in which Takahashi held Asada. After a total of 90 minutes of practice, they all agreed that it was fresh.
Asada: Dai-chan leads me with his ice dance experience, so I feel like I have to match him.
Takahashi: It's interesting to hear how Mao takes notes!
These two led the figure skating boom from the early 2000s. Asada retired in 2017, and Takahashi returned as a single skater after retirement, then retired in 2023 after switching to ice dancing. Both have brought a breath of fresh air to the world of shows as professionals.
★"Maybe this is the last time"
Asada has led tours around the country with shows like "Thanks Tour" and "Beyond," as well as the theater show "Everlasting33," where she even tried her hand at tap dancing, while Takahashi has produced "Kassouya," where he scouts young skaters and leaves an impression of the diversity of expression in their group dances. They have seen each other do this.
Takahashi: I was a bit shocked to see how much her performance and presentation skills had improved. I felt like I had to work harder too. I've been thinking that I want to create something that is uniquely my own so that I don't lose out to her.
Asada: Each of us is active in a completely different worldview, so it always gives me the strength to work hard, too. I learned a lot from skating together today, being so close. I think he is an amazing skater.
Living in the same era, they have been and still are each other's source of growth and challenge. Muramoto, who was entrusted with song selection and choreography, also responded to this relationship.
Muramoto: They've competed in many different fields, and now they'll be reuniting after having their own shows and having had many different experiences. I think it's really special. I wanted to highlight the two of them.
The theme is past and present. Muramoto will play Asada's past, and Tomono Kazuki will play Takahashi's past, and the four will dance together. It's an ambitious piece that chronicles the two of their journeys to the song "Silhouette" sung by AQUILO.
Asada: This may be the last (collaboration). I want to savor every moment.
Takahashi: Maybe by looking back on it, we'll discover something new and think about it again. I hope it will be a piece that gives people a sense of hope as the four of us share it.
The two actors, playing their past roles and the two actors playing their present roles, come together on the ice, depicting them moving forward into the future. This will be a major milestone production for both [all] of them.

Finally the veil has been lifted! :)

OK, but that sounds incredibly cool? I'm really looking forward to this! It also makes more sense now that the promo was very heavily focused on Mao and Dai, since the number is about them.

I'm very touched that Kazuki was chosen to play Dai's younger version again 🥹

Deservedly so, I can't think of a more suitable candidate!

Sponichi article:

Mao Shimada asks Mao Asada, who is performing with her for the first time in an ice show, ‘How did you feel about your first Olympics?’
[ 4 Apr 2025 14:56 ]
The ice show ‘Stars on Ice Japan Tour 2025’ will be held in Osaka from 5 to 6 April. The show will be held at the Towa Pharmaceutical RACTAB Dome from 5 to 6 May.
A press conference was held in Osaka on 4 May, attended by Kaori Sakamoto (Sysmex), Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara (Kinoshita Group), Mone Chiba (Kinoshita Academy), Mao Shimada (Kinoshita Group), Ilia Malinin (USA), Mao Asada, Daisuke Takahashi and Kana Muramoto, who will perform. Each of them shared their thoughts on the show.
For Shimada, who won the World Junior Championships three times in a row, this will be her first collaboration with her namesake and idol, Mao Asada. On the podium at the press conference, they stood next to each other, and she said with a fresh expression, "I have always admired her, and I never thought I would be in the same ice show with her. I want to cherish this opportunity."
When asked by the press what she would like to ask Mao Asada, Shimada replied: "I would like to ask her if she was aiming for the gold medal from her first Olympics, and what kind of feelings she had when she took on the challenge." When asked that question, Asada replied as follows.
"I was 19 years old the first time I competed in the Olympics. Of course I was nervous because it was something I'd dreamed of since I was a child, but the Olympics is a stage for dreams, and I have fond memories of having a great time at my first Olympics. So I hope everyone enjoys their first Olympics." Shimada nodded deeply at these words.

Great Photos! The cast look so happy!

Yes, it looks like the cast were enjoying themselves quite a bit! I suppose for the active skaters it might also have played a role that the pressure of competition fell off them after the World Championships! :)

Here are a few more rehearsal pictures that were published today 🥰:

It looks like Kurt Browning might have been inspired by Ice Explosion/Kassouya ;) as there were a few transitions leading into some of the individual programs (although those were a bit disjointed and didn't have much to do with the following number, e.g. Smells like teen spirit -> Makeba (KanaDai) or Enter sandman/Seven nation army/Kashmir -> Poison (Kaori Sakamoto)).

The transition pieces were always standard in old skool SOI shows. They don't have them as much in the more modern/recent shows. From Kurt's days as a regular in the 90's...the transitions were a thing. :)

Thanks for the info, I didn't know! :)

Do you remember any particularly cool ones / is there any footage on youtube?
