Elena was not given tickets to the GP series this season, and now she did not participate in the Russian Nats.
I read in posts here that she may have been forced to retire by the Russian fed, but OTOH logically she might end up being given a chance for European Championships or even for Worlds, like Kostner will for Italy though not appearing in the Nats.

True, she'll soon be 28 but still, I'd very much rather see her smile on the ice than not.

Does anyone have the true story?

Well, as far as I know Sokolova was forced to retire by Piseev. The reason was that she was not giving 100% to her skating, but also having other interests and he was not satisfied with her results. Therefore she was not given any GP assignments and also did not starts on Russian nationals.

She was sheduled to perform on the Show of two capitals in the end of December, but I´m not sure if she was there or not.

i thought that she was more or less retired for over a year now.

Thank you for the info.
I am sure that there are many fans of Elena in Japan who would like to see her at least just once more before retiring.
Her '05-'06 season was quite good. Though the Olys for her turned out bad, she was really close to medal in the Worlds'06, had her SP been a bit more; that was her second big international achievement since her silver in '03 IMO.
Before the GP series started, her ISU standings was 7th, ahead of Rochette.

ETA:
Bennett, Elena's bio says her coach is Viktor and Marina Kudriavtsev(a).

Piseev is the head of the Russian skating federation, and he decides who goes on the GP list, and has, lets say influence with coaches and who gets spots for international competition.

In Sokolova's case, while she might have been her own worst enemy, she did, based on her world rankings, earn a guaranteed spot at GP this year, and would have received a second. For Sokolova "retired" is an intransitive verb.

What does Piseev earn by "retiring (transitive verb)" Elena?

ETA: I think you meant to say "for Sokolova "retired" was an passive voice", no?

I'd like to see an interview with Elena saying that she 'retired'. The one she gave, she stated that she has no intention to retire and will become European Champion.

Elena reminds me so much of Nicole Bobek! Very talented, brilliant at times, disastrous at others. The difference, of course, is that USFSA is a much more transparent organization; as long as Nicole placed well, they pretty much stuffed their frustration where it belongs. Russian federation, of course, is a different story...

From Wikipedia,

"In languages where a passive voice exists, a transitive verb can be passivized in order to turn it into an intransitive one. For example, the transitive verb hug becomes the intransitive verb phrase be hugged. Passivization involves deleting the subject and replacing it by the direct object (this shift is called promotion of the object)."
