Are we not having a rule of no spoilers in the Edge this year? I've never been able to watch the GPs before so didn't really mind either way but this year i can and I keep findig spoilers in threads!

There doesn't seem to be any TV showings of the GPs except for SA. I believe the GP Final will be shown on NBC. This rule only pertained to US television. It never was followed for other countries.

Anyhow, the Events Section is very active. Oh, those early morning risings for CoC and NHK for LIVE on Icenetwork.

As Joesitz mentions, the rule about spoilers was instituted because U.S. television used to show events, especially the Grand Prix, on tape a long time after the competition actually happened. Some fans did not want to know who won in advance of the showing, so they could watch it as if it were going on live. (personally, I could never wait that long to find out who won. )

Anyway, now that most of the coverage (what little there is in th U.S.) is live, or at least next day, this is no longer such a big issue.

We do, however, prefer that people discuss the competitions in the Events folder and reserve the Edge for general skating isuues.

Grand Prix Finals will not be shown on NBC TV. NBC will cover U.S. Nationals in Cleveland in Jan; and the 2009 World Championships in Los Angeles in March. Nothing else!

Oh, sad. I've always been so jealous of you in US, "The Promised Land of figure skating". But this season it seems like even we in Sweden got more fs than you. (Thank you, Eurosport!!)

we haven't been teh 'promised land' since 2002. tv ratings tanked and networks stopped showing a lot of the stuff on network tv... then ESPN didn't want to keep skating and now we get NBC who is nationally biased and could care less about the rest of the world of skating. gotta love the bigwigs who don't get it. *sigh*

"Not Euros?!" was my first thought, but that's not interesting in an US point of view. Not 4 CC??

I thought it was the same thing here, but now you mention it...
So 4CC is kind of a second ranked competition?

yes, though it really depends on where it is... in 2001 it was in Salt Lake City, so we saw all the big names attend to get a chance to skate on the olympic ice ahead of time...

and if it's not too far to travel to you see skaters like Evan Lysacek or Tanith and Ben participate - but if it's on the other side of the world they don't bother.

Ms Kwan, of course, who loved to compete but skipped as many events as possible had much to do with the loss of interests in fs in the US.

(sorry, I'm not Doris...). Yeah, I think so. Me and my friend jumped for joy when we read this, just to cry the second later when we saw that everything was blackout restricted... All glory to Eurosport this year, otherwise we couldn't have watched anything (read GP) except Euros and Worlds this season.

Eurosport has picked up a couple of hours of 4CC coverage ni the past even when they haven't shown the GPs.

Though i'm majorly PO'd with Eurosport for having skating listed in their scheduling so that when i thought I taped all the China GP coverage I ended up with more WTA tennis then i did skating because they didn't bother updating the schedule. So i missed all the SPs .
