I don't get all this talk about momentum. It did nothing for Wagner in 2010 or 2015 or Gold this year.
And since we're talking Edmunds - well, did she have any "momentum" going into the 2014 Nationals? How about Nagasaki? Zawadzki? Gao?
I'm using momentum to refer to the fact that, if it looks like you're having a fairly successful season, nationals judges will (probably) be kinder in their scores because they'd rather you go to Worlds than the girl with the bad GP results.
Mirai had zero momentum in 2014, Ashley had all of it. The only problem was Ashley skated SO badly they couldn't possibly place her above Mirai. So they let Mirai have the medal and Ashley got the spot.

Judges want the best team to go to Worlds, and when it comes down to a third spot that's up for grabs, they're going to do their best to give the scores to the person they think will do the best.
