State of U.S. Ladies' skating 2016-17

I found the Ice Talk with Gracie disappointing. No questions about her new programs for the season or her strategy for this pre-Olympic year.

I think this is supposed to be fluff... not hard hitting journalism.

I don't know if Gracie is in a mental place that asking those type of questions would not be uncomfortable. That does not mean they should not be asked at all, but I don't think they should be popped on someone who is expected fluff.

They asked if she still enjoyed skating and they were greeted with silence... any more questions would have been rather uncomfortable.

Yeah but there was a delay in every answer, I think there was a phohne delay because he would ask a question and after a long pause she would answer for every question, I noticed that each time.

Just finished watching TSL video on Mariah Bell at SA. What a difference a few months has made for her. She really impressed me -- intelligent, thoughtful, focused, and so much more mature.

Mariah Bell has guaranteed herself a medal at Skate America, with Ashley's score and Gracie's skate still to come.

I'm impressed with her.

ETA: And it ends up being silver!

Anybody else hoping for a Wagner, Nagasu, Bell world team this year?

Not a dig at Gracie, but I'm not a fan of her programs this year

Way too early in the season - it's still just October. A lot can happen in three months.

That being said, Mariah showed a lot of promise today for this season. And I am worried about Gracie - because these types of skating performances that she did this weekend aren't a one time situation. It's a pattern.

Did you hear how loud was the ovation for Mariah Bell at the medal ceremony? :)

Looks like America has it's new favourite ice princess, congratulations!

Well she didn't train much this summer, she's planning on doing well at nationals not the grand prix. I'm not giving up on her just yet.

i think US lady skating started to get really interesting now. Mariah Bell's silver is not a fluke. she has been steadily improving over the years. Also, Mirai's strong coming back (trust me) that is not a fluke as well. Mirai has been super consistent in practise in the last couple of years. And the ever increasing self-insured Ashley. plus the natural talent (that never fully realize but I still have hope on) Gracie. it is gonna be exciting to watch national. Unpredictable.

Plus the always unpredictable Karen Chen and Courtney Hicks...as well as Tyler Pierce and Polina Edmunds. No idea what will happen.

You can dig up my post in 2012 when I first set sight on Mariah. I said that girl was a star. She really lit up the entire rink with her smile and the joy from her skating was infectious. I can't wait to see what she will bring in the future.

Some girls have IT, and Mariah is one of those girls. You just see her and you see IT.

I first saw Mariah Bell at 2014 Nebelhorn Trophy and I still remember her SP quite well, I thought she really had that star quality and I loved the music, it was so refreshing. And then she only scored 50.72 for that! I thought she deserved a ! and not a e on that Lutz and she should have been in the mid 50s. I'm glad she's starting to become successful and I can't wait to see how she does at Nationals.
