Yes, but potential is just....potential. Gold had the "potential" to get 68+ and go toe-to-toe with Radionova but what did she actually score? 8 points lower.
Gold has the "potential" to score 130+ in the FS but then the Reality Factor kicks in and suddenly we're probably looking more in the 117-122 range. Yes, it could still move her up but a medal/significant bump is not happening without the performance of her LIFE.

That's your prerogative, obviously. But the Japanese ladies (and everyone else) still have to bring it too. It's not over until Kanako Murakami finishes her skate tomorrow.
I'm hope the US skaters won't give up so easily as many fans here.

I watched the slow motion, her 3F is improved and should deserve 0 instead of !

I, too, am a bit disappointed -- but not watch the free skate just because the USA isn't in it? How can anyone say that! We just saw another woman land a triple axel in competition. We saw some really fine skating by women from all over the world. I wouldn't miss watching skating for anything.

That's the only clean SP Gracie did all season. All others were mistake filled. And what is the deal with her skating so close to the boards now? Something like that should not be continuing to happen.

That seems much more reasonable than calling a SP with a ! clean.
Digging for a positive, at least Edmunds came through and did what she could. 61 is a good score for her. Saved US ladies from total embarrassment. If she keeps her nose down and does another clean program in the FS, she can be proud of herself. She may even be able to move up again like 4CC.

I'm hopeful for the FS that all three ladies will kick butt (even Gracie). Ashley skates best when she is the underdog and she'll probably skate angry. I hope she's not terribly injured - could be just a muscle strain in her back. I really want Gracie to have a great skate (no hitting the boards, falling on a flip and not completing her 3-3). Polina will be clean, I'm almost certain of that. Despite her issues earlier this season, of the three, she is the most consistent, IMO.
I don't care about medals, but would like to see them maintain the 3 spots for next years Worlds in Boston. I'm actually planning to go next year since Boston is a train ride away from NY. Would like to see 3 US ladies next year compete!

I agree. It's very disappointing but none of the Americans are out of contention for much improved placements from their current standings. I'd still be surprised if we don't end up with 3 spots next year.

Polina knows how to make it count. She may not be as good as an "on" Ashley or Gracie but she can deliver. She's like Aly Raisman.

Me too. I'm not sure why I'm not hearing more people talk about how well Polina skated.
I don't care if she medals or not. She is clearly one of the skaters who represent the future of US skating and I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't want to see the beginning of her promising and hopefully long career.

Me too. However, at this point, the only place I hope our skaters look for as an excuse, is in the mirror. Actually, I hope they don't give excuses. I hope they skate their best in the free and come home happy. Also, I don't think Polina should be anything less than very proud of her performance. I wish all 3 of them best and I will definitely be watching.

This was to be the year the US had a chance to get a female on the podium for the first time in 10 years. They blew it. It's over. For whatever reason--scoring, training, kids today, whatever--this is no longer an American sport, but a Russian and Japanese specialty sport. I'll be surprised if I see an American on the podium at Worlds again in my lifetime.
Of course, countries can rise and fall rather quickly in various sports, so there is a little bit of hope, but I don't think we'll see another ice princess for a long time.
