Struggling to keep a tight air position - any off/on ice tips?

Hi all,

I am currently jumping doubles. I am able to land 2S and 2Lo pretty consistently but I’ve noticed sometimes, especially on 2F and 2Lz I am about 1/4-1/2 under rotated. After videoing myself I find that I struggle to keep a tight air position and there is often a space between my knees and ankles even when I jump off-ice which is preventing me from getting the full rotation consistently.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for improving the air position as me and my coach are wanting to build up to 2A but want to get my other doubles and combinations more consistent first.

Ballet class. Particularly work on third and fifth positions of the feet.

Work on your back spin technique and getting into a tighter straighter position. Try an off-ice spinner too to get your backspin more centred as often less than ideal centring can lead to leg separation. It’s just something that optimizes with time so keep at it (and it’s good that you recognize and are trying to address this habit sooner than later!).
