Tara Considers Herself An Actress Now

She did? Her dad lives in Texas. Tara began touring with SOI, then built a house on Kiawa Island, South Carolina, where she spends her summers. She recently bought another house in California.

Well, I don't know that she bought a house in CA.

I agree with you Kat Witt is in her 40s, but she is not alone.

If you meant Tara was fed up, I still think you remember wrong. Tara moved on, and was not fed up with anything.
I believe it was her Mother who expressed dismay at the media attention Michelle continued to receive. If Tara was dismayed, I never read about it anywhere. She handled herself with class.

And a d*mn fine 40's it is!

Yeah- looks pretty good for 40 if you ask me.

Tara doesn't sound to me like the happiest person right now but who knows? Maybe she's going through a lot. I'm ready to give her the benefit of the doubt, although IMO she should consider the position she is relative to other kids her age and wonder if she has it so bad after all...

I can't remember which year and competition it was, but there was an interview with Tara during which she said that at the time before the Olympics she didn't understand why she (her words, paraphrased) "got so much negative press and virtually no support from the USFSA."

She also said, again paraphrased, "I did everything I was supposed to. I won Nationals, I won Worlds, and at the time I thought [about the media and the USFSA] 'Why are you doing this to me?'" She also said something about being 14-15 years old and how at that age you think if you do what's expected of you, you'll get positive support for doing it.

Then she said that now she understands the media and the USFSA better and realizes that she was young and naive (again, my paraphrasing from memory), but that it "really hurt at the time."

What I got from the interview was that Tara wasn't trying to state "facts," but just her perception of what happened and her feelings about it.

OT PS: Gee, Gezando, I was about to post or PM you on what a pleasure it was to read posts from you that were respectful and informative instead of badgering and accusatory. Too bad. It was so nice there for a while. Not that I'd expect you or anybody to be a Pollyanna. I just find chronic beligerence tiresome.

Some skaters just think they'd be great on screen. Tara Lipinski, Oksana/Pasha Gritchuk... who else? Kulik had that film role as well, but it didn't interfere with his skating (and, BTW, he wasn't bad at all).

I have that movie, love it, and honey he was pretty poor at acting. It was his only part, ever! Tara is a rare talent comparatively! I think she'll have some success, she's still so young. I wonder if she'd skate again if they asked her to play Henie? I think she was in a lot of pain just skating and did not want to be a shadow of her former self. If she wants acting roles, it would be to her advantage to not talk about any physical limitations she suffers from, if indeed she does have such.

Your last comment is very true, Bijoux. For every TV or film role the actor must be bonded (insured). In order to be insured, the actor must be healthy and free of injury--unless you're a huge box office or ratings draw, in which case things can be "fixed." But producers are apt to avoid an actor who might talk about having severe hip pain at 23 just because of the insurance, even if she only experiences the hip pain when she skates.

Personally, I think Tara retired as an ice skater because of her injuries. She simply could not perform triples, and she probably realized that the stress of skating - even double jumps - would do nothing but further aggravate her hip injuries.

She certainly can take pride in her achievements - her 1997 US and World title and her 1998 Olympic gold medal - and the many good professional performances she delivered to appreciative audiences.

As for her acting skills, I saw her on one television program, and she was playing herself, Tara Lipinski, ice skater. She would probably be well served to take some acting lessons so that she can get some decent parts, not parts given to her because of the "name recognition factor".

Ilia played a Russian Dance Student in the movie Center Stage.

Tara was also in a Disney movie where she played a skater, but it was supporting role. Acting was ok for a Disney movie.

Here's her filmography - funny it mentions Vanilla Ice, but her scenes were cut.http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005150/

OT PS: Gee, Gezando, I was about to post or PM you ....

If you want to PM anyone, there is nothing to stop you from dong so, but you chose to go OT in this thread about Tara .....

Back to topic, Over the years I have seen Tara being accused of many things included she was mentally unstable. IMO it is the lowest to accuse and badger others of having a mental disease without basis, that IMO is belligerence

Right after Olys 98, I did not envsion Tara to be an actress, I thought she would go into big time business world, and make a killing at Wall Street.

Tara is taking acting lessons, and she is good in the parts that were given to her. I think she may want to start or return back to the soap for a year or two, then branch out to other acting roles.

Others also chose to go "off topic" and post about some of the ways you've gone after people in this thread, which has been a long pattern of yours. Yet you single me out. I chose to post what I did because you choose to post your attacks against people with whom you disagree. Tit for tat.

However, I will reiterate that it was good to see you posting interesting information with a respectful attitude toward your fellow posters while it lasted. Hopefully your badgering in this thread was just a momentary relapse.

I think saying now she quit skating because she didn't want to be 40 years old and alone is just plain catty. The only skater who fits that description is Kat Witt, and she certainly has NEVER been alone. And all of the older skaters in the SOI cast are married or have long-term significant others.

Yeah right, when a skater tours, he or she is alone most of the time anyway. Not everyone brings a spouse with them on tour so even if they are married, there are lots of lonely nights. Usually that's why marriages break down.

I remember Tara talked about RC being very mean to her, and she hid in the closet and cried. I do not remember Tara ever saying that she expected usfs to pay attention to her etc.

I did not single you out, in your original post to me, you said

You yourself said you were off topic. Talk about badgering, and accusatory. Others maybe off topic, but they were still talking generally about Tara. As far as tit for tat, I did not remember posting you or talking to you in this thread, so where is the tit that was thrown at you to cause you to tat? Now are you going back on topic to talk about Tara or not.

I thought Kulik was very natural as a dance student in Center Stage, a very bad, but thouroughly enjoyable movie in the Lifetime, "made for TV" movie genre. It's not easy to blend into a group the way he did. I also thought Katarina Witt was terrific in her cameo in Arli$$, but she was playing herself.

There are lots of people who consider themselves actors/actresses. There was a high school girl who made a radio commercial for the vehicle donation program for the Washington School of Performing Arts. She started with "My name is [X], and I want to be an ac-tress." My reaction was that I would never donate a car to a school that produced bad actresses, and I turned the volume down whenever I heard her whiny voice on the radio.

EXACTLY! I think so many people are confusing Tara with her mother. Even in Brennan's book, Brennan noted how everyone (the press) began to like Tara when her mother wasn't around her.

Tara isn't her mother. I've never heard Tara say anything negative about Michelle and she handles herself with class. Even turning down nudity when she's struggling for parts says a lot about Tara's sense of herself.

 Hate to get into this, but it seems like you stop at nothing. Very disappointing...:disagree: :ohwell:

Besides, it's over now, why make it into such a big production?

I agree with this, and I applaud her for keeping her character intact instead of grabbing at anything just to succeed.

Thanks Red Dog. ITA.

I will put it to Gezando that if we have anything else to say to each other "off topic" that we do so via PM.

I've said everything I have to say about Tara so far on this thread.

Off the actress topic. I think Tara may make a good Hollywood reporter if she wants to.

Assuming you are on topic talking about Tara's career, IMO not any where near over, just beginning. Talking about production, you mean you are on topic talking about Tara's acting career?? I think the bigger the production the better for her.

So you return to the original point of PM before the OT stuff. :)
