Tatiana Volosozhar & Maxim Trankov

The rink director did get back to me yesterday. V and T are practicing this afternoon, but I couldn't make it.

I too would be willing to work on a fan meeting or even a fan club (maybe one already exists?) (or maybe we in this Fan Fest are the fan club?). I don't know of course, but maybe Nina Mozer (I keep spelling her name wrong -- I apologize) will train her skaters in New Jersey again next summer. With that amount of advance time, something could be put together. Maybe I can find out the contact the rink director works with, though he may not care to give that information out.

Nessie, I'm not sure, but I think, V/T might not go to NJ next year, as they both said in the interview on the radio in Kazakhstan, that they would miss one season.

I suspect they take next season off as well so they only have to train the two seasons before the Olympics and not the next 4. It'd be neat if we could set something up before next year though. I'd love to set up a small meeting at Skate America. It's just working through the logistics of space and arranging for Max and Tanya to attend... and of course ordering champagne and "wedding cake".... I kid, I kid.

Yes, you are right about V/T taking season 2015-2016 off. I cannot remember Tanya's exact words in one interview, but she said something about taking time off. It's not connected with sport, I don't know, what she has meant.

She said that they just need some rest and nothing more (not because they have some other plans).

I am sure there are some other plans. ;)
if they miss the 2015-16 season, they'll have at least 13-14 months off, meaning they'll start competing again in September/October 2016. How much can they REST? haha
I just hope they won't get used to being free and the thought of retiring might become very tempting...

At the risk of being considered a completely insane person, I ask: wouldn't it be within the realm of possibility that a certain couple could marry, have a child, and then go back to work? Gordeeva and Grinkov did it and they did it successfully. I'm sure a second gold medal for V and T would be thrilling and worth pursuing, but four years is a long time to wait when you are in love with someone and you are perhaps ready to think about serious side of the relationship. Having had a baby didn't set Ekaterina Gordeeva back one bit! She was still svelte, in perfect shape and in fact, her skating was more glorious than ever. I'm just ruminating. I'm probably all wrong, but I think it can be done and I just wonder....

I completely agree with the whole idea, but don't forget that Ekaterina was 21 when she had her baby, they were young parents who achieved success quite early on. They had a great team of family & friends in Moscow who helped them and took care of their child while they were abroad.
V/T are both about to enter their early 30's, which is quite tricky if you want to have a baby (look at us, almost picking baby names... lool ). Your whole body changes, the sleepless nights, all of your priorities in life suddenly change. It's almost impossible to tour with a young child around the world. Their families don't live with them in Moscow (Perm,Ukraine).

True, true, I suppose -- especially about touring. Tanya is only 28, but if you talk about her approaching her early 30s, should we not introduce the matter of the pressure of the biological clock? It's ticking....

Separately: V and T's short program is ready? Goodness, that was fast...

Actually, I think that Tatiana's parents have moved to Russia from my understanding. During the olympics there was a show where her parents came and introduced themselves and I faintly remember hearing that they moved.

Yes, I agree with you about biological clock an we know, Tanya wants to be mum from her interview. I am sure, her parents would help her to look after baby.
As for V/T short program, Stas says, it's ready and it's good, as Tanya has sent him two videos. Also he says, he is still working with V/T, as he is not named as their coach on official Russian figure skating team, only Nina Mozer.

Interesting, thanks...

Of course, it is up to them to decide - but I don't think that would be reasonable, given that they intend to continue their career for now... Anyway, they are probably going to skate only to the next Olympics (hardly any longer). Making a pause to have a child and then trying to return to the same competitive level would leave them too little period of time for skating and competing... Anyway, why stress the body like that - to retire, to give birth, then to strive to regain physical form to compete again - only to retire anyway in a year or two due to their age... To my mind, it would be better, if they continue skating to the next Olympics and then get to their family issues when they retire completely... Though, again, it's up to them what to do.

You're probably right. All that you say is completely reasonable. They both seem to be patient people. I just wonder if a second Olympic gold medal is something one pursues with the same hunger and single-minded purpose as the first gold medal. Maybe it is. But I wonder if Max doesn't seem just a bit bored. Though I could be reading it wrong and he's just maxed out on training, traveling, etc.
