Tatsuki Machida

Actually right now there are rumors floating around among Japanese fans on twitter that he will retire... they think his behavior/quotes were rather suspicious during Nationals. Since his original plan was to retire after this season and so far it looks like this was the end of it, I can't help worrying.

Retire??? NOOOOOOOO!!!! He still has a lot to show! I know it! No doubt he has a challenging FP, but with rest and proper training, I think he can deliver.

I agree and just wanted to say congratulations Tatsuki on your second place in the SP. I think he was underscored and although he didn't make the podium I truly enjoyed his FS. It's very impressive that he works so hard at both training, competing and his studies. I love that about him.

just watched Machida's LP, (read that he made a mistake so didnot watch until now, my bad:p), I love it!, especially start from his step sequence to the end. He is smiling during the entire step sequence, perfectly suited Ode of Joy. also his exuberance matched the late half of the program music perfectly.:cheer2: His interpretation is getting better every time.

Good luck with his studies and thanks for all the graceful performances! It was a pleasure to watch him.

I hope to see him one day at K&C with his students as a coach/choreographer. Good luck to him on his studies at Waseda.

I'm so sadden and shocked by his sudden retirement, but have to wish him the best of luck for his future.

I would just like to requote my post in his retirement thread::)

He is one skater I love and adore to bits this season. His programs are of grandeur yet technically demanding. Funny though I don't know if its just coincidence but after the GP finals I have decided to officially skip this season because it's such a burden to watch such an exemplary skater like him to compete and rival with a fixed champion. And then now he announced his retirement. It is with a heavy heart that we accept this. I feel like he has totally lost his motivation, when Yuzuru had a disastrous CoC programs and still ended 2nd place, that his "underscored" SP in the nationals vs Yuzuru's unclean SP and still reached 94 mark, I feel that his "nodding" after seeing his score is some sort of the sign he needed to retire, that I think he has made the right decision and surely is the best for him as to their is no point of winning against a fixture.

Truth behold his programs are the best this season. Thank you so much Machida for such splendid artistry and athleticism. In my eyes you are the champion! The male ballerina on ice!

So Yuzuru´s at fault that Tatsuki decided to continue with his studies?

This logic doesn´t reflect any respect for Machida´s choice, he made it clear that his studies were his priorities and that there was a great chances this was his last season.

Tatsuki announced he is going to retire and is not going to worlds

I'm shocked. I wasn't expecting that, and I'm really sorry that he is retiring now. :disapp:
However, the most important thing is that he is doing what he wants to do, and makes him happy.
I wish him all the best and thank him for all he has done in FS.

i am sorry that your favourite skater decided to retire but it is amazing that whenever you have the chance you keep crushing hanyu, ignoring his hard work, he kept improving and challenging himself in his own way, upping his tech but still trying to improve his SS and choreo as well, fixed champion?? idk who deserved to win nationals, unclean SP? did he fall and i missed it? its also disrespectful to tatsuki as well, thinking he quit cause he thinks he never will get results and others are gonna be overscored, they are in this sport for long time and they know better than us, for me it would motivate skaters not make them quit, they skate cause they love it, otherwise they wouldnt put up with so many hardships and injuries. as far as i can see team japan has such strong bond and they all respect eachother, its no exception between yuzuru and tatsuki, and i am sure yuzuru is more upset than you are,we have a lot to learn from them , i wish we as fans would respect others skaters as well no matter how we dont like their skating,
i am sorry, i know this is tatsuki fan thread, i am sad to see him retire as well i wish he would have stayed until the end of the season, i hope he would still go to gala and perform for his fans, also participate in ice shows as well, he will surely be missed

Well I guess I broke the news a good few hours earlier didn't I. Firstly I would like you to kindly refrain from controversies and silly Hanyu vs Machida arguments. Right now it's highly disrespectful to both skaters.

Secondly I'm proud to have been his fan and proud to have supported him and helped making other people realize the huge talent he is, and the brand new type of skating he was bringing to this sport. It is extremely unfortunate that he cut what seemed like a bright, long and fulfilling road. While I respect his decision and support him on the new chapter of his life, this announcement was way too sudden for me to not be saddened and to not regret it and think "oh, what could have been."

Tatsuki's announcement and Q&A with the press.

I don't have time to translate it, but it seems like he'll continue to do very limited amount of ice shows as part of his studies.
And he decided not to go to Worlds because he'll be starting at Waseda from April and he must prepare for that. He wants to start concentrating on his studies from today.
