Maybe an NBC intern contaminated someone's sample (to create a fake doping scandal) in the hope that the ratings will be higher for the rest of the figure skating events...

What is your unlikely theory?
I don't feel like I need to create one, because if it is truly one of the ROC athletes that tested positive all the former Russian skaters, coaches, and media will undoubtedly come up with crazier theories than even a science fiction author would be able to invent to blame another country, probably the US , for this. Reading these quotes and articles while laughing at the absurdity will be the only silver lining to this terrible situation.

At this time, all we can do is HOPE that no athlete failed the doping test (or higher ups manipulating test results). I would never wish this on my worst enemy—to have worked SO hard and sacrificed so much of yourself... only for it to be taken away so suddenly is a depressing reality that could spell doom for many (mentally and physically). If an athlete did it knowingly, then an adequate punishment should follow accordingly. However, often times, in a sport involving teenagers, there is an imbalance of power and a structure that systematically and systemically oppresses and silences athletes. I am not speculating that athletes were/are forced by coaches or the federation to dope but this is a possibility that deserves rumination. Insofar as the rest of the team members are concerned, I worry for their mental wellbeing heading into the individual events.

I remember there was uproar last Olympics when certain Russian skaters were not allowed to take part, but it is still possible some skaters might use doping to help them, especially since Russia is known for having such controversy. This allegation doesn't help.

Obviously I would be glad if the results stand.

not wishing this on anyone but if one of ROC's athletes was caught with a doping test, and ROC still sent that athlete to compete in the team event... then they should be DQed. Let's not forget why there are no Russian flags to start with. Russia is under scrutiny and needs to clean things up. This is definitely not something that will help the sport if true as everyone has been praising the Russian superiority. Imagine what the "normal fans" will think? Some of my friends who know I am crazy about figure skating are already writing to me with all sorts of allegations.... saying things "that's why they have these amazing athletes" I feel so sad for the sport. No matter what happens, this is not good.

Thought experiment... what's the team scores if you remove a Russian skater and give Canada 2 more points.

Canada had 53 points so they would have 55 points now.

Valieva - 74 - 20 = 54 ... Canada wins bronze outright.
Mishina / Galliamov - 74 - 19 ... Score would be tied but I think Russia would be ahead in a tiebreaker.
Sinitsina / Katsalapov - 74 - 18 = 56... Russia would be in bronze position.
Kondratiuk - 74 - 17 = 57... Russia would be in bronze position.

Why would anyone take something if they know they’re going to be tested? How do they think they’re going to get away with it?
I suppose the advantage of taking PEDs is worth the risk for some. Obviously everyone doesn't get caught, otherwise no one would use banned substances. Personally, I would disqualify the entire team because any segment's result can influence those that follow, from the perspective of adding pressure and even selecting substitutes.

Is it possible that a positive result turn negative for doping?
And after all, someone can be in the same situation than Jessica Calalang. Some "doping" substances are in products used everyday.
The issue is that it takes months to clear the athlete.

I am not too sure this is how it would work out though. It could be DQ of the entire team.
