I dont really believe this "news", its all rumors without an official statement. But if it was true, the athlete knew it was a banned substance and that they would be tested for it. They would deserve to be disqualified. Even when I felt very bad for that summer Olympian who smoked weed after her moms funeral, it was still fair that she wasnt allowed to compete. It's not a case of Calalang's makeup magically turning into something else.

Positive drug test by Russian Kamila Valieva has forced a delay of Olympic team medals ceremony
Medals for the team figure skating event were scheduled to be awarded Tuesday night, but the ceremony was delayed.

I wasn't too sure it was definitely a Russian athlete caught doping before but Brennan checks her sources. She's exposed all types of scandals in sports that have turned into major events. If she says it, I believe it.

I have no clue what's going on... I almost do hope it is weed because while it would suck for Russia, it wouldn't be a major scandal, just a big oops moment. I do really really hope it's not Mark.... because he did so much to redeem the reputation of the Russian men (get it? Redeem?) but if he leads to them getting bronze/no medal I can't imagine what would happen to him in the media... the same goes for Kamila, since they are both so young.

So far we have had a very reliable news source and reporter say that it was a Russian figure skater... although before the news came out there were some people immediately (and unfairly imo) pointing the finger at ROC with no evidence.
Tour de France. When L. Armstrong was stripped of his victories, there was just no winner.
(because all the cyclists who had finished in the second place had been convinced of doping as well in the meantime, though not during the same competitions).
I hope feds or coaches teach skaters about all doping substances or banned drugs.
Imagine if it is 15 yo Valieva who was enjoying her youth with a good joint.......
Weed is so available and more and more legal that a very young athlete can think "it's not that bad".

Well...see above, although as said figure skating isn't known for doping as the usual stuff (steroids) doesn't really help.
On the other hand...if it IS doping wouldn't WADA just get up and say so? They aren't known for pussyfooting around this issue.
Someone on Twitter suggested it's possibly a COVID thing, like a forged vaccination certificate maybe (which would leave Kamila out as the Russian Sputnik is not approved for under 18s yet). In that case would it be really be fair to disqualify the whole team? That would be more legally difficult to decide than a positive doping test be it for marijuana or anything else.
Well Christine Brennan says it someone from the ROC. I kind of trust her to find someone worth trusting to have that information.

I always found it weird that you can have serious pain killers, but not a Sudafed (because of the minute bit of pseudoephedrine in it).
Like what's in the pain killers that make them less performance enhancing than something that clears your sinuses?
it is absoutely not that available in Russia. and definetley it is considered bad. Unlike, for example, the USA. i could hardly imagine anybody smokes marijuana. Alcohol is more beliavable.

Pseudoephedrine can be used to make a drug, it doesn't matter that the amount is small. In Poland you can't buy more than one package at one time legally as a part of anti-narcotics law.

Nope, when Bobrova tested positive for meldonium even though they were fighting the positive test from Europeans because the drug had just been banned and there wasn't conclusive evidence of how long it stayed in your body, Russia didn't send them to Worlds as the results would be vacated if she lost her appeal.
I wonder if that could be the case, that something was appealed already and because of who it was Russia still sent them and now the appeal has been lost they have a problem

So potentially, [offending athlete] still gets to compete in their individual event, gets a medal there, then gets stripped of that medal days or weeks later?

I agree. And you would think Russian athletes would be the most careful about not violating the rules this time. But of course, this is all speculation at this point.
