Team medals delayed by legal issue

Brennan indicated the positive drug test of concern by a Russian figure skater was pre-Beijing. WADA tests take a lot longer than daily covid test results! Does that mean from Europeans last month? ROC team members were all individual gold medalists there. I know other athletes are subjected to out of competition drug testing but I don't know if Russia even bothers.

But to just now be coming back? I wonder if Russia is fighting that saying if they knew the skater wouldn't have been sent to the Olympics and competed

If you just take away the ROC score... if you also adjust the Canadian score up accordingly, possibly not
oh yikes - this could get messy if we start potentially messing with the SP ranking - coz that might mean some of the eliminated Teams could have still been in consideration. is it resolved yet?

If it´s weed and a skater smoked it, it´s worse than taking pain killers you didn´t know was on the drug list. Everybody knows weed would be caught up in a doping test, and even though it´s legalized some places and a lot feel it should be legalized it would be incredibly stupid and irresponsible to do so.

Just let´s hope this all is a misunderstanding or an honest mistake, and that it will be solved soon without consequence for the whole team.

Very weird situation. Makes you wonder why it wasn't reported earlier if it's really from before the games. Really, the best the IOC can do is publish an official statement asap.

Clearly I don’t know enough about this stuff.

A test that was done prior to the games. Who would have done that test? Wouldn’t it have been the ISU? If so why wouldn’t it be reported?

Or do feds conduct private tests and the allegation is they identified something and chose to send the skater anyway? Maybe it was from their nationals?
Could have been a WADA test also

I think someone tried really hard to dig this information and put pressure on ROC Team before individual events. I think it’s something minor or fake. I believe Russia took all the tests super seriously, they have so many alternates to avoid a mess…

If it's one (or multiple) of the younger athletes, they may not even know what they are fed...

Ahh, here come the excuses. This is a +1 for the people that want the age limit raised, unless they have a mental illness a 15 year old should have a shred of brains to understand what they are putting in their bodies. And if they don't, well they are about to get a tough lesson

I surely don't know how much can Guardian cen be trusted in this, but this took my attention:

The Independent Testing Agency, which conducts tests at the Games, did issue a statement. “The ITA is aware of the various reports circulating regarding the postponed medal ceremony for the figure skating team event at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022,” it read. “Any announcement connected to these events would always be publicly issued on the ITA’s website and not commented on otherwise. No such announcement has been published to date.”

I guess others involved, like skaters, coaches and officials, are ordered not to make any statement as well till the case is solved.

How long would that take? I want to see Chock/Bates and Hubbell/Donohue with their medals around their neck! :)

One of the sportsmen (other discipline) said they were asked to fill in Adams more carefully. I hope there’s just some confusion and the situation resolves itself but what a mess and shock it has given to all the athletes

I understand that WADA testing involves an A & B test. They divide the sample (pee) and test one and save the "B" sample for later testing as needed. I don't think this would have reached this level unless they are testing a "B" sample.
Looking ahead to World's in March, France has criminal charges for many doping offenses in athletic competition. I don't know if they enforce them any more than WADA, the International Skating Union or the International Olympic Committee though.

Well would Russia have not been made aware of a positive on sample A?

That's what I wonder. If the Russian Fed wasn't made aware then its on the doping officials that an athlete tested positive weeks ago and the Fed let the athlete compete here not knowing there was a problem

At the last olympics when the the curling mixed pair was charged of doping they announced the positive test and names immediately after the first test, that's why I'm wondering why no clarifying statement is there already.
