TEB is Cancelled

Let all skaters who have competed in any of the GP events take part in an event called Grand Prix 2015, to be held, of course, when and where the final was scheduled. I certainly would have no objection to seeing all of them skate again. The events that have been held thus far would be seen as warm-up events. Under the circumstances something out of the box will have to be done anyway.

The fact is now we are being shamed for discussing topics - we are all horrified and saddened by the events in Paris. Many innocent lives were lost, all because of one groups radicalism.

Personally, I don't care what Phil thinks about the situation. I will feel and think what I feel and think and will care about what I care about. Just another person who feels everyone is obligated to think and feel about something the way he does.

Gorshkov, as head of the ISU Technical Committee, does have a lot of say in the outcome, and he is one who is against having the SP count as the results for TEB. If TEB is eliminated, then all the skaters who had TEB as their first or second GP event couldn't make the GPF, and that's a whole lot MORE skaters disadvantaged. :noshake:

Gorshkov has nothing to do with Technical Committee, you mixed him up with Lakernik I guess.

Of course Mishin, Gorshkov and Trankov don't want the TEB SP results to stand because that would mean Russian skaters Tuk, Lipnitskaia and Tarasova/Morosov would be out of the GPF for sure. Some of them would prefer to have the GP series and/or the GPF cancelled. Now that is a purely self-serving, throw the baby out with the bath-water attitude! :rolleye:

Yeah super strange that they are pulling for what benefits their own skaters most! Such a novel concept.

I agree with the decision to cancel the event, I don't think any other response would have made sense.

To figure out final qualifying:

Take the top 6 based on results not including TEB. Then look at TEB competitors, and see whether they would have been placed above skater #6 *if they had won TEB*. If yes, add them to the final. If no, do not add them to the final. If that means there are, say, 9 men and 7 or 8 ladies in the final, fine.

Whatever happens, my heart goes out to everyone involved and everyone affected by the tragedy that happened yesterday.

So what about people from TEB who are already assigned to NHK?

They are well trained athletes who probably practice their programs every day. Remember when they used to have a qualifying round at Worlds? Those that qualified had to skate their program twice at one event. Or remember when skaters had to skate two different long programs at the grand prix final type event (not sure it was called grand prix then). Requires more effort but certainly we know historically, very doable.

Why don't they just hold the free skate elsewhere/ at a different time and add those scores to the SP scores? I know it must be difficult to coordinate the logistics in such a short period. But that still seems way better/fairer than adding FP scores from other competitions. The scores vary a lot from event to event, some people haven't competed at all this season, and one of the main features of sports is that you have to earn what you get on the field/court/ice and not just phone in results based on prior occasions. I think I'd even favor making the SP results final before I'd favor adding in past scores to decide final placements.

The attacks are a terrible, terrible situation for Paris/ the French people. Skating doesn't matter at all in context and it seems right to cancel. But the competitors must be a bit annoyed about the cancellation.

Very true. When I did competitive cheerleading for my high school, for district semi-finals, we all did our competitive routines twice. 2:30 at least and 3:00 at the most. And we do it twice if and only if we got 4th or higher at the first round of district finals.

Is it really that big of a deal if some of the skaters missed the Grand Prix Final? Just taking Asada and Ten for example...Asada did not qualify for the final in 2009 but she still went on to a silver medal at the Olympics. She also missed two other Finals (one did not qualify, and another withdrawn because of her mom's illness) but she continued on to have great results on her other competitions. How many Grand Prix Finals did Ten miss? And yet he was able to get bronze medals at the Olympics and Worlds (and one silver). Gracie decided to withdraw from the Final last year to allow an injury to properly heal so that she is healthier at Worlds. I'm sure these are not the only examples. Whatever the ISU decides will never fully compensate the affected skaters.

No matter what solution is suggested some will find fault with it. This is an unusual and unexpected situation for which there really is no perfect solution (except the ones I have suggested LMAO).:laugh2:

Agree with this. I don't think skaters like Patrick Chan, Tuk, or T/M are going to be discounted at worlds for not attending the GPF. We know they're all good skaters. If they skate well at Worlds then they'll be at the podium, no matter what happened in the past.

If the solution suggested in that tweet were to happen, Gracie would get 210, Shoma would get 265, and the other two winners would get whatever they got at their next event. Just thought that was interesting.

I am really sad about what has happened. All French people please accept my sincere condolences... we (in Russia have just had a similar tragedy) mourning with you!!!!!!!!!!! What's for this GP event... it's not fair to count the points as per the SP, either replace this event, or cancel the GPF. It's way much more simple to have a clean SP routine than a FS one....
I've just had a family dinner with my relatives one of which is working in the 911 (alike) service in Russia... she has recently had a lot of calls from Egypt from Russian holidaymakers who are being abused and bullied... like ripped off money, gadgets, humiliated... and noone's going to do anything about it. I can understand Russians banning this holiday destination due to safety concerns and I can understand Egyptians suffering from major financial losses because of this tragedy.
It just doesn't feel right... I have the guesses who is to blame, though...
Something must be done in terms of propoganda or even rewriting some Holy books. Why is it so hard to live in peace and harmony... isn't it enough? Is it so important to plot and strive to prove that you're better regardless of the number of victims involved...

I don't think adding their last scores is a good measure for the FS. It is definitely not representative of how skaters compete at the event.

I think the only way fans would be satisfied is to hold another FS. The problem is that it is expensive and time does not permit. I would be interested to see 8 skaters in the GPF this year.

This thread is all over the place! I just have to say people are getting way too defensive towards Phil H's tweet. He's commenting on specific comments (about unfairness, in which I completely agree with) in the thread and not the whole lot of you who are trying to find solutions to the GP Final. My heart goes out towards Paris and Baghdad and Beirut. We should grieve for those lost and those in danger and grieve the fact that safety is a privilege.

Not discounted, but it could affect the skate order. Patrick especially may "need" the points to avoid being in an early group.

Yeah, but I don't think PCS wise he's going to get majorly robbed. I mean he was skating early here and in Skate Canada but his PCS is still pretty huge. I can see the argument that Tuk and T/M's PCS might go down but I think if they do well at European's, they'll be okay.
