The 2021 Tayside Trophy is an international competition which will be held in Dundee, Scotland, Nov 6-7, 2021. The competition is open to all competitors who belong to an ISU Member and will be conducted in accordance with the ISU Constitution and General Regulations 2021, the Special Regulations & Technical Rules Single & Pair Skating and Ice Dance 2021, and the relevant ISU Communications

Wow, nearly the entire Irish team is entered! It's only the ones that are based overseas (Elizabeth and the Condons) that are missing.

Good to see pretty much all the top Junior and Senior British Singles skaters entered. Should make for good competitions.

When we have a decent sized Pairs field, I'm a bit disappointed that Zoe and Chris are not entered. But, at least Anastasia and Luke are.

Boys but it makes me feel old seeing Tamsin Sear's daughter competing in Juniors! Can't say I'm familiar with the other British Junior girl, Christie Anne Shannon. But, from a quick search there, I gather she is Scottish.

And after she rescued the Ladies competition in 2019, it is good to see Aleksandra Golovkina returning. I admit that I was worried when she withdrew from Nice last week. But, with her now training in Dundee, it would make sense to do their competition instead of going through all the red tape involved with travelling to France.

Day 1 of the Tayside Trophy is about to start.

Because the very young skaters will be competing for most of today, I will not be doing reminder posts at the start of each and every segment. Instead, I will just be posting reminder posts whenever skating resumes after intervals. And then, when we reach the Novice level competitions, I will go back to the normal method.

Wow. I always thought the Level competitions were for the very youngest skaters. But, there is a real variety of ages in the skaters in this opening group. Most of them look to be in the 10-13 age bracket. But one of them is more like 5 or 6.

Also, the Warm-Up is only 2m 30s long!

Awwww!!!!!! One of the girls had her coach and a couple of other skaters in with her when she was getting her results. It wasn't quite the climbing over each other level that we get with the Estonian youngsters, but it was still nice to see her getting support.

Also, for a fee, you can send in good luck messages that will be displayed on screen when the skater is being introduced.

For the first girl that had a message, it was from her grandparents.

And the next girl had two messages, one of which was signed "Mum, Dad and Chewbacca"!

The force is strong with this one!

(Unfortunately, she wasn't doing a Star Wars programme).

I see we have a skater representing Ireland in the upcoming Level 2(a) Ladies competition.

However, I don't think she is the first Irish skater to be competing today.

As you would expect, most of the skaters here are representing Scottish clubs. When one of these skaters was waiting for her results earlier, she was talking at a volume that we could hear clearly what she was saying. And I thought "that sounds like a definite Northern Ireland accent!"

I do wish the results pages would have a column displaying the clubs that the skaters are representing, in addition to the Nation column. Because, due to the echos, it is sometimes hard to make out the announcer.

And it is nice to be able to see at a glance who is team-mates with who.

Boys, but there were some great song choices in that segment! For example:

Shakira - "Objection"
B*Witched - "C'est La Vie"

Never would have thought of skating to either of those songs, but they made brilliant programmes!

That said, there were some very rough edits to "C'est La Vie". But, seeing how much the girl was enjoying herself skating to it made up for it.

Very considerate of the organisers to actually include a dinner break in the schedule. I like that. Especially since it is at the time I normally have my dinner.

The quality of the livestream is even better than in 2019. Last time Anastasia Vaipan-Law was doing some of the Announcing, but I hear we have the legendary Jenny Bill this time (Official Announcer for the British Championships).
