Re: The BackFlip!...

Jenny Kirk can do a backflip, but I don't know if she can land it on one foot.

But the person who would realy benefit if the backflip were made legal in competition is Michael Weiss. Then he could do his backflip-with-a-twist move. Maybe the Code of Points would decide that was as good as a quad Lutz! ;)

About the backflip, I think the knock about it is that it may be a wonderful talent, but it's not skating. I can play the trombone, but playing the trombone on ice isn't ice skating. I think that the ISU folks who look out for the "purity" of the sport are skeptical of theatrical moves that have nothing to do with the interaction of blades and ice.

Re: The BackFlip!...

I've never seen the excitement about the backflip. Maybe I would have to see it live to understand. It's a great acrobatic move but as far as skating goes, I just don't get the to-do about it. So I, personally, don't really care about it being a legal move. :)

Re: The BackFlip!...

I am pretty sure the reason that the USFSA competition comitee banned it was for safty. That is waht the books say anyway:rolleyes:
