The First Skate | Jul 5, 2025

There will be a segment covering the First Skate in local TV (6th and 7th July).

NHK News Coverage. Yappei cannot wait to see Yuzu. The writing on Yappei's forehead: "Yuzu Love". LOL so cute.

Guriri is excited.

Haier and AQUA sent flowers to Yuzuru Hanyu "sama".

I read tweets saying some photographer uncles will be there tomorrow, so we'll get some photos.

The Yappei Tweet was deleted but the mascot seems quite as excited in this video, also showing more details of the new Xebio Arena:

So... Mayor Kori during the opening ceremony for VIPs celebrated two Sendai OGMs (but of course)! There was also a recorded video message from Yuzuru who said:

"Congratulations on the opening of the Sendai City Arena. It is up to the children to decide how they want to envision their future, but I hope that Sendai City will dream of the Olympics and dream of winning the gold medal at the Olympics again."

From news and bits that keep coming, the ice show that followed in the afternoon was wonderful and the audience was more than enthusiastic! It opened with Turandot (it seems it was a kind of an opening group number) and closed with Yuzuru skating Haru Yo Koi and following with LMEY as a grand finale, with audience "choreographed" participation and some little dancing at the seats the way Yuzu has been closing his ice stories for some time now.
No info yet on what the others skated to.

.... and we have the first short video report from TBC News (embedded and linked below) and some more info !
39 media outlets attended the conference after the show! That's a huge number for a humble opening of a local ice rink in a not-so-big- city :love2:
3378 viewers were in the audience - this number included extra seats added last minute answering the huge demand. The show was obviously sold out with extra tickets gone in 3 minutes !!!! :love2:

From Megumi Takago from The Hochi Shinbun quoting Yuzuru from the hugely crowded press conference:
#YuzuruHanyu The reason for choosing "Haru yo, koi" (Come, Spring). "The theme of a new beginning is one aspect, so for me, it’s the season of beginnings, the image of spring, which is why I chose it. I hope that for the children who skated today and the people who came to watch, it’s not just about the season, but also the sight of it sparked something, and with the hope that it would lead to a new beginning or a step forward, I skated with a prayer in my heart. Personally, I thought Honda-san's Riverdance was insanely intense.

This site has an embedded video with the opening (Turandot), Yuzu's video message, and the closing.

And 39 Japanese media outlets attended for a 70 minute show.

This fan posted a picture of three of these standing "seats" covered with acrylic figures of Yuzuru Hanyu and a Pooh:

A report from the show and the press conference (photos from which you can see above) by Deep Edge Sport, fan translated (although the post speaks of "Yuzuru's responses" they report questions and answers from all four skaters :)

From Akiko Suzuki's Instagram - a selfie Yuzuru took of all the skaters (4 professionals and 24 amateur) who took part in the show, plus the four of them at the press conference :love2:

Autographed items from "Together on Ice" are displayed at the first floor at the Xebio Arena !
ToI was an ice show celebrating Yuzuru winning the Sochi Olympics which was organized in Sendai in 2014 in this very arena turned into an ice rink for the night. It was not a permanent ice rink then but just a sports arena used mainly for basketball then. But it seems some things were written in the stars...
