The Judging Controversy Thread

Why is Marlon Brando, er, Tatiana Tarasova wailing about the results? Her inferior skater won...not fair and square whatsoever, but she still has her name in the record books. I'd think she should just be happy with the fact that all the politicking and sleazy maneuvering the Russian figure skating federation did actually worked out.

I think Tarasova is just insecure because she knows Adelina didn't deserve that gold medal. Also, it's interesting that she's harping on Yuna's dress (which actually looked quite elegant and sophisticated). Compare Yuna's dress to Adelina's absurd garbage bag with glitter dress. Not sure exactly where she gets off criticizing Yuna's much better fashion choice. Again, I think it's all about the insecurity.

To be honest, I really really liked Mao Asada until she started working with Tarasova. Tarasova ruined Mao for me.

A. And that's it! Kostner showed outstanding skating but she didn't do any difficult combos. I think you could only compare Kim with Carolina but not with Adelina. Look at how difficult Adelina's jump entries and exits are! It's difficult to do that! Adelina should have outscored Kim in component scores by a large margins, and Kim actually received higher component scores, which shouldn't have happened! I would given her lower component scores. Adelina didn't have a single straightforward jump entry; all her jump approaches had tricks, 3-point turns, rocker turns, counter turns..

Q. So why is the West so up in arms about it? Are they just annoyed by our victories?

A. Yes, they are. Even Kim's dress was a throwback. I know the judges don't score the outfits but it's just a little thing that says a lot, regardless. The costumes have changed, too! In her short program, I didn't care for her interpretation of music one bit, but she received high component scores that assess how well her movements related to the music - well, there was none! Adelina had a fantastic short program, Carmen, huge jumps, and their spins simply couldn't be compared!! As I said, Kim only has one spin that deserves high marks - her old spin where she turns her torso out.

Hey, is it just me or Madame Tarasova DID NOT :biggrin:mention the word "over-scored" when she commented about Kim Yuna? Then why the title? I don't get it!:confused::confused:

She looks as physically imposing as a sweet grandmother. But I find the idea of Alla beating the other judges far more entertaining than Putin paying off all the judges.

I think we should just let the judges have a mudfight. The idea that judges are fragile little flowers who cower in fear of Ms. Shekhovtsova. What would she threaten them with? "I vill beat you up"?

Don't be so bloody literal.

I think the real test for Tarasova's comments is wether you usually agree with her,
For example:

Do the people here that feel she is right, Also agree with her that Plushenko deserved at least 4 more points for his Vancouver SP ?

For me personally, Looking at most of the programs she made under this system, Wouldn't inspire me to believe she has the best grasp of it,
But it is important to get as many point of views as possible i guess, She is a woman of great influence still.

I'll read this throughout when i get back home, it's Beer time now ;)

I was just using ctrl+F (search function) on the Chrome browser. Lol:biggrin:
Even though I am not a fan of Kim's free skate (same music, but I am moved by Liza Tuktamysheva, not Kim) I have to say Kim with higher PCS is reasonable, she is consistent.

I don't get it. What is the controversy? Tarasova liked Sotnikova's performance better than Kim's? Is this news?

Catty

I understand that. Still, based upon your translation, she seemed to intimate that the judges did not like Yuna's costume. This is how I read it.

Your translation:

"Even Kim's dress was a throwback. I know the judges don't score the outfits but it's just a little thing that says a lot, regardless. The costumes have changed, too!"

My interpretation:

Regardless of how it translated, Tarasova basically stated that Yuna's costume sucked ("I know that the judges don't score the outfits...") and that her sucky costume sends a message to the judges ("...but it's a little thing that says a lot, regardless"). Is that what she's saying to you? If not, what does she mean about it "sends a message".

To me, this is either Tarasova bloaviating about her sense of fashion (and then about Yuna's program) and projecting it onto the judges or she must have talked to someone on the judging panel. if the latter, there is a lot of indiscretion going on between coaches and officials.

That being said, many did not care for Adelina's costume either (a matter of taste).

It's very catty of Tarasova to say that about Yuna's dress. Adelina's gray dress wasn't all that either. I liked her dress better last year the blue sparkly, feathery one. I even liked the Burlesque program better. Tarasova should be the last one to comment on costumes. She's the one who let Illia Kulik wear that giraffe shirt in 98.

Man. it's too bad Pete Rose wasn't a figure skating judge. He woulda hadda field day.

Aytime Alla is on a panel though the judges do what she wants. Ex ISU judge Jean Senft has mentioned how she goes so far as to physically threaten them if they do not. The only time she was on a panel and a Russian or her favorite did not win was the ice dance event at the SLC Olympics; and the judges who didnt were quite lucky if they escaped physically unharmed as according to Canadian skating writer Beverly Smith she ripped them a new one backstage. The fact she that desperately wanted to bully the others to crowing the horrific Lobacheva & Averbuhk as Olympic Champions shows she has absolutely no shame, conscience, or sense of moral whatsoever, as she yet again showed in Sochi.
Order the book of Beverly Smith which was published post Nagano, and then the other on Sale Pelletier published post SLC, and you will [see] exactly what I am talking about.
I guess I will when this thread stops bringing me new stuff to read
However, if you’d like to give us some excerpts before this happens: I recommend you to scan a few best pages, upload them as pictures and post here a link!
