The Quad question

According to HF above, his attempt at a 4z was ratified and then unratified because of two foot landing. What year Nats? I don't know/

It always seemed to me that he either made the rotations or came close to them. he may have been competitive in the CoP era.

Joe

When did Weiss stop skating competitively? I thought he did compete under COP?

If I remember correctly, and that's not at all certain, it was 2005 US Nats when he lost the podium to Mathew Savoie. I don't think the USFS was using CoP then, but not sure.

Joe, I believe that Weiss's last competitive program was the LP at Nationals in 2006. That was scored by COP

Overall 4 Michael Weiss 217.48
SP 2 LP 5

He did compete in the Grand Prix in 2005, though, and it was COP scored then, but in nowhere near it's final form.

He was 9th in the Grand Prix in 2004

He finished 4th in NHK with 193 points and 3rd at Skate America with 179.56.

Didn't he skip the GP in 2005?

At that point in his career, I don't think he was trying the quad lutz though.

Thanks Doris. I wasn't sure if he had skated in CoP but I do believe he was losing heart in competitive skating after 2004 Worlds. Johnny was coming on strong at that point. Much of his choreography at that time was not more than standard.

As to his quad power, I still maintain he made full rotations but two footed them in many competitions, most notably to me was in 2002 Worlds SP (a 6.0 competition for which it seemed he got no credit for), and after that, I do not think he was making the rotations.

Mike missed out on the Olympics team in 06 to Matt Savoie, not 05. He popped his 2nd (?) Triple Axel and according to the judges sitting around us (watching, not judging) they commented that had he fully rotated the jump but fell it would have been enough for third.
