Because he's an athlete. He's a competitor. Skating in competitions is his thing, it's what he does.
(Now watch Evan make me look foolish by withdrawing.).
The funny thing is - he hasn't yet. Frankly, I'm surprised.
Daisuke is a full time college student and is graduating in 3 months. He's been doing lots of shows (so that he can pay his bills?). Not to mention numerous appearances on TV and at all kinds of official meetings which, I suspect, he simply can't skip.

It will be an interesting Men's. Of course, Daisuke should win but Evan and Jeff have to give it their all anyway.
Why not have the location of the contest in Hawaii as an annual event to save on travel?

Did I miss the part where Takahashi became unbeatable? Why shouldn't a clean Evan win against Takahashi? Takahashi had a clean SP at Skate America, but two falls in the LP (3A and 3L), at NHK he had a dodgy 3A (-2 GOE) in the SP and fell on the Quad in the LP, at the GPF he had a clean SP but "only" 7 Triples/Quads in the LP - he doubled his Salchow and didn't have a Triple-Triple. The only time this season he was clean was at the Japanese Nationals. That was also the first time he ever landed two Quads in the LP - but he doesn't have a Quad in the SP. He has great footwork - but so has Lysacek, their spinning abilities are equal but Takahashi sometimes loses balance etc.
Lysacek has the same chance to win the 4CC as Takahashi. If Takahashi pulls off what he did at the Japanese Nationals - then it might be difficult for Lysacek to win, but I wouldn't abandon all hope just because Takahashi had one competition this season where he was completely clean.
Evan never quite skates a truly clean FS, and that's why it's hard for him to beat Takahashi. In ISU competitions, Evan sometimes gets his 3A and/or his quad downgraded, and he gets stiffer -GOE for messy jumps than he gets at Nationals.
Takahashi may not always be clean, but has beaten Evan by 8 points at SA, 9 points at the GPF and 15 points at 2007 Worlds. Those are not close finishes.

Will local people be interested in it enough to make profit for ISU?

I agree that the ISU should find a way to have an annual central location so that the locale of the event is convenient for all non-European skaters since it is supposed to be a counterpart to the European Championships for skaters located in all the other continents. All this continent hopping must be very taxing on the skaters involved, particularly so close to the World Championships. There needs to be a solution put into place to try and create a happy medium for all participants from those nations.

I'm sure the local people would love to attend the event, even as a social event. The many Hawaiian fans will be there and all those Fan Traveller's like me will be there. After a great competition, a stroll along Waikiki Beach, Some wonderful Asian restaurants; topped off with a visit to Maui to mingle with the Rich and Famous; As the sun sets on Hawaii, a fond farewell to all the GS members wearing their colorful Leis, and holding a pineapple drink giving sworn testimoney that they will return next year for another 4CC adventure.
