I don't know where you live, but coverage in DC was terrible. No dance or pairs - sad. I had to visit the web to look at most routines. Thank goodness for it. Also, I'll try and remember that this is just the first of many events, so folks will be rusty.
Men:
Chan - good skate! I like him. Does he have any other GP assignments this year?
Diasaku (spelling) - I couldn't get past the costume...I know, the costume isn't the one skating but for me, it's important. I just - well, I didn't like it. I'd like to see more choreography between jumps and spins...I thought it was a bit bare...who did his program this year?
Evan - I thought he looked good for an early skate. I didn't see the SP which apparently he fell/stumbled something but the LP was nice. I also really liked his satin shirt. Kinda retro but not too retro. Classic.
Ladies
Mira - I wasn't impressed. Something was lacking. I felt like I could go to any regional event in the US and see the same thing. Hmmm. Didn't like the piano keys on the arm either
Kimmie - LOVE the color on her. Program was nice. I've never been a huge fan of her but she does seem to be expressing herself more.
Asada - I wasn't impressed - but I'll chalk it up to evacuating from the fires
Hughes - I really, really, really like the program, the dress, the hair everything. her landings were kinda funky - back on the boot heal it seemed. I like the new look - she looks leaner and I like the hair pulled up. Folks seem to have a mixed feeling on the dress but I liked it - slimmed her down. I really did like this music for her. She's not a lyrical skater and needs to stay away from that kind of music
Caroline - I really don't see much of the fuss...She has great extension and spins but her jumps are so tiny and she cheats them. Hmmm..I see a mix of Jenny Kirk and Tara Lipiniski in those jumps and I don't like them. I'm not sure what the fuss is about.
Dance
D&W - I was not impressed. They lacked passion and fire. I'll have to look at their OD and see if it was better
B&A - Tanith looks terrible is white/gray. Not a good color for her and Chopin seemed like an odd choice. The only interesting thing about their FD was the opening lift. Let me take a look at thier OD and see what that was about.
