because she is not "The chosen one"
Was she "the chosen one" during the year that Mao took off? I had stopped watching figure skating for quite awhile, so were they desperate to heavily promote someone new in her absence?

i think people had high expctations from Kanako after Mao took off and Akiko retired but it didnt happen and Satoko stepped in as well as Rika

) but none of them became media darlings. In fact for the first part of the season the media was focused on the Yuzuru Hanyu vs Tatsuki Machida drama, then the Tatsuki Machida retirement drama, then the Mao Asada announcing her comeback drama. Satoko's World medal almost went unnoticed. This year media focuses on Yuzu of course, Mao, Shoma and certain Pyeongchang hopes who is "the chosen one " as well... Satoko disappears in grey... that's it, then she will train hard,( she always does) shows consistency, somehow manages to get medals.. but only 2 min appearance in 1 hour figure skating TV review and bashing on forums.. thats what she gets.
I'm probably considered a basher even though I've done both positive and negative video reviews of her jumps. I've always liked her programs and admire her interpretation. Heck....the only reason I ever made a jumpamatron of her was to counter the overly loud Satoko supporters who would show up in thread after thread crying foul and that she was so massively underscored. My only goal wasn't to "bash" bit to show that she was getting a lot of points on questionable jumps already and that TES benefitted her as much and maybe even more than any PCS shortcomings imagined.
Anyway...label me and others as you will. I'll always root for the girl to do her best but Mao and Wakaba are who I hope lead Japan next year.

I don't think I've ever seen any positive videos you made of Satoko, but whatever. I think the "overly loud Satoko supporters" are far out numbered by the overly loud Satoko bashers on this forum, who can't seem to appreciate any of her other qualities because of her "questionable jumps".

Out of curiosity, what exactly makes her jumps in that program good? What is the difference between those and the jumps in the negative video reviews?
Totally agree about her being a hard worker. It's why I find it impossible to root against her.I really love her arms and her SS, I think she's a lovely skater, her programs need more oomph for me but I will see her live in October. I feel bad for her tiny jumps because they must be a huge pain in the neck for her but she can only do so much. She's a hard worker, you don't skate consistently for an entire season without hard work. People will complain and harp on her for doing 2 2A-3Ts and everything but she's not the one judging her own jumps and she's only trying her best to maximize her points under the current set of rules which she didn't write.
