Thoughts on Satoko Miyahara's skating

Instead, it comes off as though you're lowkey bragging that your favorite skater is capable of not falling even though she fell. Even without the exams, she may have fallen anyway. Is she actually capable of going through a full season without falling? Only the future will tell. Unfavorable circumstances or not do not really matter. This is sport and a fall is a fall.

I was lowkey joking because I'm not some unreasonable uber to actually believe she can go through a full season without falling but if it came off as lowkey bragging... :confused2:

It's clear that Satoko Miyahara generates a wide range of reaction among fans. Why do you think she provokes such contrasting reactions among fans?

I think it's because of her small frame and she doesn't exactly look like a "doll" out there. Her jumps are so tiny, but she lands them, however, I think for me, she lacks artistry. Artistry is what moves me, no matter shape, face, or size. So when you combine lack of artistry with small jumps, there you have it. Like Tatiana tarasova put it between the comparison of satoko and marin.....the former does the same thing in terms of consistency, but doesn't move her, while the ladder is just "Japanese beauty",.....but I think Tat means Marin has the skills to complement her god-given beauty.....although I don't think Marin compares to Mao Asada.

when I read this thread (and others about Miyahara) I'am really shocked why she is not already GP and World champion, while she is so perfect ? OK, I know this is because bad judges don't notice her divinity. So, judges ! please, give her all the PCS and GOE of the world and let this butthurt finally ends !

No one said she is "so perfect"; your condescending remarks are uncalled for.

FWIW, she already is a GP champion: http://www.isuresults.com/results/season1516/gpjpn2015/CAT002RS.HTM
And a 4CC champion too: http://www.isuresults.com/results/season1516/fc2016/CAT002RS.HTM

When someone throws 4 small, cheated Triple Toeloops into a program it's just funny to watch, precisely because they think it shows "more power" when actually all it does is show repetitive choreography and flawed technique. Anyway, there is hardly any good musical interpretation happening in that program to me. The arm flutters she does after the spiral + hop didn't nearly reflect the intensity of the music, it was like she was suddenly skating to music about butterflies. In general I don't see what is trying to be conveyed by the music of this program. It is very vanilla in many parts and then randomly gets intense in bits and pieces.

I did like the step sequence, though.

are u talking about her star wars program? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCWSs4NvKW0 Is she trying to portray princess Leia because I don't see it.....I can't explain it, but her skating doesn't move me. I've read a lot on this forum that she cheats on her jumps, but I honestly can't tell because she rotates so fast, it's more obvious to me when a skater pre-rotates. But I think for me, she just doesn't have that IT factor. But I have never seen her fall even once.

HOw old is she? I think she needs more height in her jumps. Also, she doesn't jump straight, it's slanted but very fast rotation, kind of like Alisa Fedichkina girl.....

Or that Gracie and Elena made a bigger impact on the judges.

Except that Gracie did not skate well in her long program. I would think the impact on the judges, if any, would be negative. Elena skated OK but I think Satoko was better in P/E, I and Choreo and should have had a higher score overall.

Ok I must admit, initially, when I first read about Satoko's Star War program, the first thought come to mind:

...oh Great! The Ewok strikes back, with her phantom jumps! How can one not return with seethe over those GOEs on her 2.5 triples, abuse of pre-rotations, and the likely outrageous number of 3Ts tacked on in the 2nd half for some shameless Russianing?! I can already feel an attack of the moans coming along, with the return of the judges pinning their new hope for a force of future Japanese funding.

After seen this, I haven't exactly changed my mind, but it is slight forgotten... It has some interesting moments of clarity, an interesting concept merging the planets with Starwars. Not a cheese in sight...sadly. It is like how Japanese tends to do with western cheese/junk. Dress it up, posh it up a bit, repackage it nicely beyond what originally made them interesting, price it up to give it class. Although the choreography is not particular unique nor interesting, and nothing particularly star wars about it. Satoko has refined her presentation to the point you can gloss over the generics of her program, and find something interesting about her form. Her improvements are there to see, from appearing overtly studious and practiced like she was 2 seasons ago to have enjoyed a moment of spontaneity and play with them. Some exquisite details in her arms movement, upper body form which is something young or Russians don't have, nor her musicality.

Now just need some personality, originality, and uniqueness to boost her presentation. Otherwise, there are moments I can see she is still imitating past great champions instead of Satoko - a unique skater. Although her tiny jumps are certainly her signature, but it doesn't bother me much in an exhibition. A beautiful skater who should win in a music recital, perhaps just should not be the most competitive one in an Olympic mottoed sport.

I think she just doesn't have the IT factor like Marin Honda.

Was she "the chosen one" during the year that Mao took off? I had stopped watching figure skating for quite awhile, so were they desperate to heavily promote someone new in her absence?

I think so....but problem is...Mao is still around. I feel so bad for Mao, who was so heavily crucified on her lutz edge jump and triple flip/triple loop jump earlier in her career. When I see the younger generation of newbies doing the same jumps Mao did, but never getting docked for it. In my mind, there is no Japanese lady to top Mao yet.

And people think I exaggerate when I say she (and her fans) gets the grossest comments. :bed:

Uh, I think I wouldn't call a "so perfect" sarcastic comment one of the grossest comments I have seen here. If you read the thread where they discuss Evgenia Medvedeva's latest 9/11/terrorist/whatever it is called free skate, there are a few gross comments directed to her. I don't know why you get the idea that Satoko is the one who is picked on the most and the harshest in the forum when there are other skaters receiving the same treatment. Chan's coach quit and there is literally a long thread talking about that and some bashed him there too. I am not saying that it is right for people to do that. But at the same time, I don't know why you are trying to paint a picture that she is the skater treated the most unfairly in this forum, just saying.

4CC has not been that great in recent years, with top skaters skipping the event to prepare the Worlds, especially if that person has already a 4cc title.
I mean GP Final champion. And 4CC this is only 2/3 of world championships :)

Well in case Mao and Wakaba won't lead Japan next season (like people hoped Mao was going to lead Japan in 15-16), what I hope is that some people won't blame Satoko and her shortcomings for Mao and/or Wakaba's mistakes. Unfortunately, once Mao came back the bashing doubled from 14-15 to 15-16. Including bashing from Mao fans who used to defend and praise Satoko in 14-15. They know who they are.

Mao Asada's greatest enemy has always been the ISU judges, ever since she entered the senior rank. She still battles them to this day :(

what ? you are really over sensitive. In this thread I see only "oh, OMG !!" I advice you to check what people comment about Medvedeva and other "russkies"...
