I think, it's not only overall progress of ladies skating in Russia, Anya has simply been developing slower than other girls strength-wise.
Seems like she needs more time than others (and certainly more kilograms! ).

It really is amazing what she managed to do. In a year and a half she went from having essentially no functional triples in her programs to performing so well there and scoring such high scores, beating many very talented, older skaters.

It'll be interesting to see if someone's going to actually beat this record of hers and if so, when.

I say, with the present competition, it will be tough. Anya edged out Tarusina, who was over 1 year older. It's quite a big gap in this period of intensive skill and physical capability growth. All puberty problems start later.

Because of the way birth dates work out, Berestovskaya or Akatieva would have to do it next season already. Could they do that? It'd be really hard to believe they could improve so much to not only perform all the triples(That many others at that level will also be able to do), but also gain good levels in other elements and PCS. Are quads even allowed at all at this level? I guess the next opportunity where skaters with potential to do it would be in 3 seasons with the 2009-born age group, but it is much too difficult to project that far ahead for them already(Being able to see Dzepka this season would help with that projection a lot but I assume she's injured...).

So, the 2020-2021 season will have only one superstar of 2007' - Samodelkina? [emoji848] And then, the 2021-2022 season with Sofia Akatieva, Elizaveta Berestovskaya + 2008' company: Polina Plakhotnaya, Victoria Sinyavina, Sofia Vazhnova, Polina Yusuf and Veronica Zhilina. Then again, 2022-2023 season with only Melkumova and maybe someone of these girls Anastasia Lysykh, Anna Zaitseva, Zlata Murashova will also shine. And 2023-2024 season with Uliana Vasilieva and Sofia Dzepka.

Samodelkina will be in a very fortunate situation. Considering how the juniors are supposed to be when she's ready for them(Zero other Russian super talents should even be in juniors at that time...), her situation really is quite ideal in comparison to Berestovskaya, Akatieva and co. and she should have the opportunity to establish herself big time during that first junior-eligible season of hers.

Almost relevant, I ran into this forum thread. Competition on March 30 2016. Interestingly, this seems to have been Elena Kostyleva's debut(At least this category translates to "first steps" or so) at the age of 4 years and 5 months, and Elizaveta Berestovskaya was also participating in 2sports category here at the age of 8 years and 3(almost 4) months. I'd be so curious about seeing the protocols for this but I haven't managed to do so, unfortunately. In general, it'd be interesting to know the trajectories of all these promising skaters so we'd better know where all the upcoming talents really stand in comparison.

However, it seems like data regarding these minor age competitions before the 16-17 season is very limited...

I wonder how are connected coaches in Khurstalny. Tsareva aside (for now I know only one promising skater of hers - Maya Khromykh), there are Volkov, Bulycheva and Volobueva. Maybe someone else. But! Different coaches - should be different methods for training, but nope! All Volkov's skaters (starting with Trusova): Emelyanova, Popova, etc, do the same things - the same spins, backloading and even warm-up is the same. Bulycheva's skaters also do the same things. What does it mean? They're all work together with Eteri and Dudakov? Just preparing skaters for growth, and then, if someone of skaters starts to show great results - they're transfer them to Eteri? Because I can't suppose another explanation. You saw Panova's group. Davydov's group I guess even bigger. And Eteri's two groups are pretty small, like only for the best (Khabibulina is an exception I think, because even Valeria Emelyanova looks more promising than Natalia), so the other girls are divided into other groups with other coaches but with the same methods. If so, this works really well.

Hm, I decided to check these protocols of Memorial Volkova 2016 and actually found Elizaveta Berestovskaya and as it turns out, she did perform a rotated 3T at the age of 8 years and 11 months so she in fact also is a member of the 8yo triple jump club. Looking around even further, it also turns out that Sofia Dzepka almost one year ago was already clearly better than Berestovskaya or Samodelkina were even when they each were nearly a year older. Dzepka's a very serious talent, huh? I hope she returns soon(Still worried about why she would withdraw from those two competitions...). Another thing I noticed is when looking at Berestovskaya's early 2016 competition videos on youtube(SP FS), she already was doing the Lutz properly. So it indeed has nothing to do with her current club.

Anyway, if that's Akatieva I'll be surprised. But in that case it'd be good to know that she'd have that animatedness(excuse me, I don't know the real word) in her waiting to be awakened...

I really think she just has a mission: focus and work hard on her jumps. That's why she didn't look involve even in the stsq in her current programs. I'm pretty sure she can show much better artistry, especially in good programs. Lyrical themes will suit her very well, I guess.

But rotation speed is already quite visible, huh? [emoji848] Looks like she barely can handle with it, that's why all her jumps with mistakes.

About Dzepka it's really pity. Not only because we can't see her, but if she already in her progressing is ahead of any other girl, and now she's injured - that means she's loosing almost a year of her advantage. This is what really heartbroken. :sad4:

Just caught myself on the thought that Rubtsova is probably the second Mukhortova. Their legs, their style... And their inconsistency. I don't get what's the problem? Tarusina and Mikhailova are pretty consistent. Mitrofanova's case I don't even know, before her moving to another coach, btw, did you notice the height on her lutz? Very impressive! But what's the problem to teach those both talented girls to jump consistently. Hope in the next season at least one of them will be ready and consistent. Also those kids of 8-10 yo should motivate them.

I decided to go through all the competitions I could find for the first half of the 2017-2018 season on sportvokrug for the 3 ЮН. or 3. jun. category and compiled a top 10 list. I also include the age of the skater by 1 month accuracy at 1.1.2018(To save me some effort from seeing exactly how old they were during every single competition). Yes, I know that you can't directly compare scores between different events but this might still give us something to think about. Note there was one competition in particular I thought was ridiculously overscored so I decided to mark those with "*", but decided that I should include these results anyway for the sake of completeness.

Overall, the one thing of significance that we learn is that Ksenia Boiarskaia is probably someone to watch for. I see that she hasn't really been participating in competitions that have been streamed, but in the one competition I did find she just barely lost to Kostyleva(just over a point), who won the huge 21-24 December ЦСКА competition by over a 2 point margin. Her school also is Sambo-70, Crystal. And she's one and a half months older than Borovskih, which isn't a whole lot.

Right, and another thing is that Kostyleva really is good, huh? She's the only one who appears on the list more than once(Because we're not counting someone who's almost 8...), 4 wins in the only 4 protocols of hers I saw and all were top 10 scores. And no judge ever gave her negative GOE for anything.
