And these sorts of lies are why people can't accept Zhenya training in Canada... :palmf:

wow.. honorary Canadian means nothing... when I was abroad, I was often called Honorary this or that... depending where i was.. it is just a very common idiomatic expression...

now for the rest of your post... if people like Zhenya, they will support her wherever she trains... if they don't they will complain wherever she trains... i wonder if you have ever been to Canada.. you know, it's a wonderful country, open to many cultures and welcoming with strangers... so much that you may be called as a honorary Canadian Spirals... but we are not there yet.

As others have said, the expression is idiomatic and a generous recognition within the context...

So, Spirals...I'll do my best to put in a more familiar context ...

In your experience, how often are foreigners who make the effort to speak Russian and understand the culture are toasted and told they have "Russian spirits" or "Russian souls"?

When I hear this, I don't think that one is saying that they are Russian, could be mistaken for Russian, or will be becoming Russian citizens . . .

Instead it means that they are respectful foreigners, and that their efforts to get along in Russia are appreciated...

Pixie Stix. PURE SUGAR ENERGY!

Or caffeine LOL so like a Red Bull.

Speaking of which, in my part of the world, Red Bull blended drinks are REALLY popular. To the point where "coffee" stands sell more of those then, well, actual coffee.

This one, which is from the coffee stand down the street from my house, would be a perfect drink for Jason. :) It's called the Captain America Bull.

You all will be Honorary Super Americans after drinking this one. ;)

Meanwhile Joseph Phan is #sorrynotsorry about his snack of choice.

I think it's safe to say that Spainards and Japanese may react differently than people from other countries regarding being called an Honorary Canadian or anything for that matter.

Let's keep it fun and light here. Someone want to pass around those cans of Yuzu? (And Yuzu-ade for the non-drinkers).

I can pass ‘round virtual versions of the yuzu dacquoise, cookies, and cheesecake a local Japanese café makes. I’ve not yet tried the cheesecake as I often find cheesecakes too rich, but the dacquoise was lovely: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bg42_rBHyyJ/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=1eugkshnp6yfd

Afaik Team Cricket don’t know about this place (it’s not close to the TCC) so its supply of yuzu and other goodies are safe for the present [emoji6]

My family has a Yuzu tree in the garden, and every winter we put Yuzu in the bathtub like this.

Yuzu-yu (Yuzu bath) is said to have blood circulation improves the flow of blood, and it prevents not only colds but also has the effect of alleviating coldness, neuralgia, back pain, and the like. (from wiki)

...and what is this thread about again? (sorry )

This thread is about how to keep sane during the off season and finding new ways to boost Hanyu-conomy. All while being alert of the rare sightings of the said fruit... errrr, person (and the TCC fruit basket).
