Upgrading to CoroAce from Aspire XP

Hello everyone.

I am an adult skater (25yo, 66kg, 163cm) who’s been skating for a year. I have Jackson Freestyle boots which I upgraded 5 months ago from Graf 500s. The difference is huge, and I have learned salchow, toe loop and now learning loop in them. My issue comes when I try spins. I can do a couple revs on a one foot spin from a half a heart entrance but I find it very hard to stay on the rocker and not rock onto the toepick. I’ve had a read on forums like these and I think the general consensus is that Aspire XP blades are quite flat?? So my question is, is it worth me upgrading to CoroAce blades on my Freestyle boot? Or will I lose my jumps? I’m finding in the loop atm (3 turn entrance) I’m rocking onto the toepick too soon, but that could also be a case of practicing, but I’m wondering if I bigger rocker would help with it too. My spins are very scrape-y at the moment and I’m sick of it!! My coach wants to teach me a backspin but I need to get my forward scratch first! She said I’m getting ahead in jumps and lagging behind in spins. She’s not too helpful when asked about equipment however.

What do you think I should do?

Hi and welcome. Part of your issue is the blade, I would move to JW Coro Ace or MK Pro, but your other issue is you aren't in a Jackson boot that is stiff enough for you with your stats and that could be contributing to your issues if it isn't stiff enough to support you in certain movements.
You should have been put in at least Jackson Premiere 2800 just based on height/weight alone. Add in your skills set with skating and that enforces that need even more.

Good luck!

Thank you for your reply! It sounds like I should upgrade the blade then. I must admit in a 2h skating session I often retighten my skates once or twice as I find as I skate the support goes. But at the same time when I got fitted for them them I’d come from Graf 500s and wasn’t jumping or spinning at all, my improvement has been quite fast since getting the Freestyles 5 months ago!

If you are doing that with your boots, you are needing a new upgrade.
