Vanessa James & Morgan Cipres

Just wondering: Why doesn’t Vanessa wear skating tights? When she wears dresses, you can tell she has bare legs on the ice. Has she addressed this issue in interviews? I don’t want her to get deductions or get disqualified or something.

I think she might wear ordinary hose rather than skating tights? They're not made of such heavy fabric and would look more like bare legs under rink/tv lighting. Surya Bonaly used to do the same thing, IIRC, because it was hard for her to find skating tights that matched her skin tone, but regular hose were easier to find.

I remember they commented about their retirements after worlds 2018 (or am I confused with other skaters?). Have they said anything about retirement after that? Would this be their last season..? I want to see them for a long time😢

Thanks for posting Julie... All the best and fingers crssed for Vanessa & Morgan at the French Trophy this weekend!!

So proud of Vanessa and Morgan for the way they came back from a wobbly SP to take gold at Grenoble! Not that the mistakes in the SP were huge except in terms of costing points (no injuries, nothing to terrify onlookers), but the scores prove that they aren't being protected by the judging: the points they get, they earn, the hard way! And While the FS wasn't as barnstorming as it was in Canada, they were clearly far away from the rest of the field there. Hope everything comes together for two great skates in Vancouver now...

I do not know the word "barnstorming", but the fact that they are "clearly" far away from the rest of the field is also due to the fact that they do not have to fear competition from the best. In addition, there is the new points system, which conceals and undermines the best performances of the previous season. Without Savchenko/Massot and Wenjing/Cong, the pair run has lost its high tension, and Morgan/Ciprès' repeatedly expressed thoughts of a retirement in the near future do not necessarily contribute to the tension. Of course, this should not diminish their performance, on the contrary, I wish them some impact on the highly emotional level, which they have not (yet) reached.

Barnstorming: exciting, energetic and successful. Basically, a performance that goes beyond the technical to succeed on all levels, but most of all the affective.

And 'the field' I was referring to was, fairly clearly, the field at Internationaux de France 2018 this past weekend, where James/Cipres performed the programs that were not quite as successful as the ones they performed at Skate Canada. As neither Savchenko/Massot nor Sui/Han were assigned to Internationaux de France 2018 (or, for that matter, Skate Canada), I'm at a bit of a loss as to understand why you felt the need to bring them into the conversation.

Perhaps one should take to heart the advice to understand my personal statement in its entirety and context (but of course you can also remain at a loss, that brings different views naturally with it).

PS, I thank you for the friendly translation of the word "Barnstorming" (no dictionary could offer me a translation).

And the lift flowed much more smoothly than at GPF today too, which is great to see. I hope they remain unfussed about hitting that throw dead on the music - wher they timed it here, taking a bit longer to set it up, worked just fine and they went into the step sequence with no issues at all.

Fingers crossed Guillaume has also told them to stop trying to skate it like he would and start skating it like they would, too, as I think that would resolve many of the issues!

New instagram post from Vanessa - apparently she and Morgan took advantage of the short tour after French Nationals to tweak their SP with Guillaume! Fingers crossed that they've ironed out the bits that were giving them trouble and taken it to the next level, because if they can nail it the way they've been nailing the FS all season they'll be all but untouchable (qualification necessary because Sui/Han are still an unknown quantity this season). I can't wait to see the changes...
