Junior Grand Prix Varese Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh13-tKM9ZQ

Vasilisa finished 12th out of 36 in the SP, with a score of 55.21.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch the entire Ladies SP, because there is so much on this weekend. However, I did break away to watch the Group 1 Warm-Up and my two kids that were in that group.

Before the action started, I wrote an introduction post about my two kids. Here is the part that I wrote about Vasilisa:

Two of my kids are making their Junior GP debut in the opening group.

Kicking off the competition is Vasilisa Bogomolova (CYP), who I was referring to last season as "my little flame-haired Duracell Bunny". The reason is self-explanatory - she had red hair, and she just has so much energy. I may have to change that this season, though, as the last I saw she had gone back to her natural blonde hair colour.

I really rate Vasilisa. After seeing her first couple of Junior competitions last season, I was convinced she was going to go unbeaten right up until she got to Junior Worlds. But, things went off track mid-season, and she ended up as second substitute for Junior Worlds. But she came back in style at the México Cup a few weeks later, which is where she debuted her programmes for this season.

Unfortunately, the Free Skate programme which conclusively won her the title isn't on YouTube. But here is her less-than-perfect Short Programme:

Vasilisa Bogomolova - 2025 México Cup SP

...

Enjoy!

But back to the present and the skating.

Here is what I wrote about the Warm-Up in the competition thread:

And here is what I wrote about her programme:

Although not about skating, when Vasilisa was being introduced, my good friend in Sicily, @elektra blue, sparked an interesting conversation with this comment:

To which her fellow Italian @bartlebooth replied:

And then our Canadian member originally from Russia, @lariko, added:

And @bartlebooth came back with:

Our resident video archive compiler, @labgoat, replied to @bartlebooth's first reply with this:

And so will I! Along with @elektra blue's initial observation.

Anyway, getting back to the skating. The first comment about the programme from other members had come from @labgoat:

@crystalspin commented:

@elektra blue, was impressed:

As was my fellow British member, @FlossieH:

This was where @TallyT first came in:

German member @Jumping_Bean also mentioned the dress:

Our bastion of positivity, @Jeanie19, commented:

Vasilisa is currently 1.06 points behind 11th position, Amanda GHEZZO (ITA), and 0.21 points ahead of 13th position, KO Nayeon (KOR). All three of them are part of a larger group where 25 skaters are covered by 17.99 points, stretching from WANG Yihan (CHN) in 2nd position, 5.70 points ahead of Vasilisa, down to Olivia LENGYELOVA (SVK) in 26th position, 12.29 points behind Vasilisa.

That was using my normal method of using a 2 point gap to define groups. If we use a 1.5 point gap, then all three of them are part of a larger group where 15 skaters are covered by 7.87 points, stretching from WANG Yihan (CHN) in 2nd position, 5.70 points ahead of Vasilisa, down to Eve DUBECQ (FRA) in 16th position, 2.17 points behind Vasilisa.

In a competition this tight, anything can happen. With a good Free Skate, Vasilisa could potentially climb all the way to the podium. However, if she makes any mistakes, she could slip down the order.

But, she does tend to do better in the Free Skate than the Short Programme. So, let's hope she does so today as well.

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

The Junior Ladies FS is due to start today at 16:20:00 CEST (14:20:00 GMT / 15:20:00 BST / 17:20:00 EEST / 17:20:00 MSK). So 9 hours from now.

Vasilisa will be the 25th skater to start. So, first skater to go in Group 5 (and first skater to go after the second resurfacing).

The Group 5 Warm-Up is due to start at 19:59:00 CEST (17:59:00 GMT / 18:59:00 BST / 20:59:00 EEST / 20:59:00 MSK). So 12h 39m from now.

Vasilisa is due to start at 20:05:30 CEST (18:05:30 GMT / 19:05:30 BST / 21:05:30 EEST / 21:05:30 MSK). So 12h 45m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before her withdraws.

Vasilisa finished 21st out of 36 in the FS, with a score of 83.21. This meant that she dropped to 18th position overall, with a score of 138.42.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread about the Warm-Up:

And here is what I wrote about her programme:

As for comments from other members, Czech member @flanker summed it up well:

As did @Jeanie19, in her ever positive manner:

But the most positive comment actually came from @Vemvane:

Vasilisa finished the Free Skate 3.76 points behind 20th position, Ksenia KROUZKEVITCH (CAN), and 4.47 points ahead of 22nd position, Nora COPPENS (SWE).

Overall, Vasilisa finished 2.74 points behind 17th position, Eve DUBECQ (FRA), and 0.15 points ahead of 19th position, Sofiia RYMSHYNA (UKR). Vasilisa was at the head of a group of 3 skaters covered by 0.50 points, stretching down to Beatrice SOLDATI (ITA) in 20th position.

After impressing in the Short Programme, Vasilisa didn't have the Free Skate that she would have wanted. But, the main thing is that she has now competed at the first of what will no doubt be many Junior GP's. And after seeing some of what she is capable of in the SP, she has put herself firmly in the consciousness of the people watching.

And since it seems that Varvara has pulled out of the Junior GP Series this year, I take it Vasilisa will be going to the final Junior GP in Abu Dhabi.

EDIT (9th September 2025): Yep, Vasilisa is in the Provisional Entry List for Abu Dhabi.

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

I am afraid that Vasilisa has withdrawn from her second Junior GP assignment this week in Abu Dhabi. And because it is the last round of the series, that means she won't be able to get an alternative slot.

As a side note, I decided to look at Vasilisa's Instagram to see if there was any explanation, but when I clicked on the bookmark, it came up with an error page. After a bit of digging, I discovered that she has changed the address so that it is easier to remember. Here is the new address:

https://www.instagram.com/vasilisa_bogomolova/

There wasn't an explanation. But I did find an album of photos from her Junior GP debut. And just look at the first photo:

One of my kids with my first skating crush!!!

But, seeing them together really hit home how much time is passing. Like, I remember when Carolina was around Vasilisa's age! :drama:

Anyway, I hope that everything is alright with Vasilisa. I am really looking forward to seeing her in action again.

CaroLiza_fan

Well, it turns out that the reason Vasilisa withrew from her second Junior GP is that her left foot was in a cast!

She posted this video the day after my previous post in this thread:

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DPmZND8CNW-/

And this video just over a week later:

Get well soon Vasilisa!

But don't hurry back too soon! We want you to be in peak condition when you come back.

After hopefully recovering from her injury, Vasilisa will be back in action today at the Santa Claus Cup in Budapest, Hungary.

The Junior Ladies SP is due to start at 14:03:00 CET (13:03:00 GMT / 15:03:00 EET / 16:03:00 MSK). So 7 hours from now.

Vasilisa will be the 3rd skater to start. So, third and middle skater to go in Group 1.

The Group 1 Warm-Up is due to start at 14:03:00 CET (13:03:00 GMT / 15:03:00 EET / 16:03:00 MSK). So 7h 39m from now.

And that is as much as I can tell you, because the Time Schedule PDF's are not working.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before her withdraws.

Vasilisa will be her Major Championship debut today at the Junior World Championships in Tallinn, Estonia.

The Junior Ladies SP is due to start at 10:45:00 EET (08:45:00 GMT / 11:45:00 MSK). So 3 hours from now.

Vasilisa will be the 16th skater to start. So, first skater to go in Group 4 (and first skater to go after the second resurfacing).

The Group 4 Warm-Up is due to start at 13:04:30 EET (11:04:30 GMT / 14:04:30 MSK). So 5h 19m from now.

Vasilisa is due to start at 13:11:00 EET (11:11:00 GMT / 14:11:00 MSK). So 5h 26m from now.

Junior World Championships Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

Vasilisa finished 37th out of 50 in the SP, with a score of 47.90.

Here is what I wrote about the Warm-Up in the competition thread:

And here is what I wrote about the programme:

The choice of music went down really well with Australian member TallyT, who said:

And then quickly added:

To which my good friend in Sicily, elektra blue, replied:

As for her own comment, elektra blue loved absolutely everything... apart from the mistake:

EdgeCall was also impressed:

As was our bastion of positivity, Jeanie19:

Looking at the Protocols, there were three issues - two at the start, and one at the end. But, it only tells us what the issue was for one of them.

The opening element, the Triple Lutz-Double Toe, had the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -2.02. But because it had by miles the highest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the highest scoring element of the programme. It got -5 from Judge 2; -4 from three Judges; -3 from four Judges; and -2 from Judge 9.

The second element, the Triple Loop, was under-rotated. It had the second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.78, which meant that it went from having the second highest Base Value of the programme, to being the third lowest scoring element of the programme. It got -2 from eight Judges; and -1 from Judge 3.

The final element, the Layback Spin, had the smallest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.14. And because it had the second lowest GOE of the programme, it remained as the second lowest scoring element of the programme. The Judges gave it two -2's; three -1's; two 0's; and two +1's.

For the remaining elements, the GOE ranged from +0.23 for the sixth element, the Change Foot Combination Spin, to +0.52 for the fifth element, the Double Axel. This meant the DOuble Axel went from having the third highest Base Value of the programme, to being the second highest scoring element of the programme. Apart from two -1's (from Judge 6 for the third element, the Flying Sit Spin, and from Judge 1 for the aforementioned Change Foot Combination Spin), and 1 +3 from Judge 1 for the same Flying Sit Spin, all the Judges marks for the elements with positive GEO were in the 0 to +2 range.

Vasilisa is currently 0.53 points behind 36th position, Pernille WITH (NOR), and 1.43 points ahead of 38th position, Renee TSAI (NZL). All three of them are part of a group where 48 skaters are covered by 31.01 points, stretching from Hana BATH (AUS) in 3rd position, 19.05 points ahead of Vasilisa, down to Sienna KACZMARCZYK (AUS) in 50th position, 11.96 points behind Vasilisa.

That was using my usual guide of using 2.00 point gaps to define groups. If I cut it down to 1.00 point gaps, then the three of them are part a group where 7 skaters are covered by 4.67 points, stretching from TSAI Yu-Feng (TPE) in 33rd position, 1.83 points ahead of Vasilisa, down to Ula ZADNIKAR (SVN) in 39th position, 2.84 points behind Vasilisa.

Unfortunately, there is a cut-off at the Junior World Championships. Only the Top 24 go through to the Free Skate. Vasilisa is just 5.80 points behind the last skater to qualify, Mei OKADA (JPN).

Of course, she will be disappointed not to make the Free Skate. And she will be disappointed with the score, especially since she has scored in the late fifties a number of times since making her international debut. However, that was before her injury. And given that this is her first competition back since her injury, this is a good score.

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

Vasilisa will be back in action today at the Black Sea Ice Cup in Kranevo, Bulgaria.

The Junior Ladies SP is due to start at 14:00:00 EEST (11:00:00 GMT / 12:00:00 BST / 14:00:00 MSK). So 6 hours from now.

Vasilisa will be the 16th skater to start. So, third skater to go in Group 3 (and third skater to go after the resurfacing).

The Group 3 Warm-Up is due to start at 15:37:00 EEST (12:00:00 GMT / 13:37:00 BST / 15:37:00 MSK). So 7h 37m from now.

Vasilisa is due to start at 15:54:50 EEST (12:00:00 GMT / 13:54:50 BST / 15:54:50 MSK). So 7h 54m from now.

Black Sea Ice Cup Junior Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Vasilisa finished 3rd out of 19 in the SP, with a score of 59.21.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch the Black Sea Ice Cup, because I was concentrating on the Rooster Cup / Lakes Trophy.

Looking at the Protocols, there was only one element that had any negative numbers next to it. This was the third element, the Flying Sit Spin, which had the only negative GOE of the programme, at -0.17. AS it already had the lowest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the lowest scoring element of the programme. It got -1 from three Judges; 0 from Judge 2; and +1 from Judge 3.

For the remaining elements, the GOE ranged from +0.63 for the final element, the Layback Spin, to +1.38 for the opening element, the Triple Lutz-Double Toe. The opening element had by far the highest Base Value of the programme, so it remained as the highest scoring element of the programme. Apart from a +4 from Judge 4 for the fourth element, the Step Sequence, all the Judges marks for the elements with positive GOE were in the +1 to +3 range.

Vasilisa is currently 0.60 points behind 2nd position, Lilou REMEYSEN (BEL), and 10.04 points ahead of 4th position, Lia LYUBENOVA (BUL).

Although the leader, Elina GOIDINA (EST) is more than 2 points ahead of Remeysen, she is only 2.76 points ahead of her. And she is only 3.36 points ahead of Vasilisa.

And we know Vasilisa is back to her best form, because this is her second highest SP score ever, only 1.68 lower than her Absolute PB for the SP, which was from the final domestic competition she did in Russia before switching to Cyprus. It is 1.86 points higher than her previous best international SP scorre, which was actually from her very first international competition - the 2024 Denis Ten Memorial Challenge,

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

The Top 3 after the SP are all but assured to be standing on the podium. But the question is who will be on which step Any of them could still win this. So, Vasilisa needs to have a good Free Skate to make sure it is her.

Let's hope she does do it! After the year she has had, she deserves it.

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

The Junior Ladies FS is due to start tomorrow at 08:45:00 EEST (05:45:00 GMT / 06:45:00 BST / 08:45:00 MSK). So 10 hours from now.

Vasilisa will be the 17th and antepenultimate skater to start. So, third and middle skater to go in Group 4.

The Group 4 Warm-Up is due to start at 10:51:50 EEST (07:51:50 GMT / 08:51:50 BST / 10:51:50 MSK). So 12h 6m from now.

Vasilisa is due to start at 11:11:40 EEST (08:11:40 GMT / 09:11:40 BST / 11:11:40 MSK). So 12h 26m from now.

Vasilisa finished 3rd out of 19 in the FS, with a score of 99.39. This meant that she remained in 3rd position overall, with a score of 158.60.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch the Black Sea Ice Cup, because I was concentrating on the Rooster Cup / Lakes Trophy.

Looking at the Protocols, there were four elements with negative numbers next to them, two of which were particularly costly.

She fell on the second element, the Triple Lutz. It had the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -2.95, which meant it went from having the third highest Base Value of the programme, to being the second lowest scoring element of the programme. Unsurprisingly it got -5 from all five Judges.

The third element, the Triple Flip, didn't have a clear edge, and she fell. It had the second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -2.65, which meant it went from having the fifth highest Base Value of the programme, to being the lowest scoring element of the programme. Unsurprisingly it got -5 from all five Judges.

The sixth element, the Triple Lutz-Double Toe, had the third biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.98. But because it had the second highest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the second highest scoring element of the programme. The Judges gave it three -2's; and two -1's.

The eighth element, the Triple Salchow, had the smallest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.57. This meant that because it had the fifth lowest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the fifth lowest scoring element of the programme. The Judges gave it two -2's; and three -1's.

For the remaining elements, the GOE ranged from +0.33 for the fourth element, the Double Axel-Half Loop-Double Salchow, to +1.00 for the penultimate element, the Choreographic Sequence. All the Judges marks for the elements with positive GOE were in the +1 to +3 range.

Incidentally, the opening element, the Triple Loop-Double Salchow done in sequence, had GOE of +0.49. And because it had the higeht Base Value of the programme, it remained as the highest scoring element of the programme. It got +1 from four Judges, and +2 from Judge 1.

Vasilisa finished the Free Skate 24.37 points behind 2nd position, Lilou REMEYSEN (BEL), and 8.81 points ahead of 4th position, Lia LYUBENOVA (BUL).

Overall, Vasilisa finished 24.97 points behind 2nd position, Remeysen, and 18.85 points ahead of 4th position, Lyubenova.

Considering that this is only the second event Vasilisa has competed at since she came back from injury, to win the 🥉 Bronze Medal and achieve her second highest ever SP score, her third highest international FS score, and her third highest international overall score is pretty good going. However, she will be annoyed that the Top 2 were able to pull so far ahead of her in the Free Skate, and that her Free Skate scores are still not near what she was achieving domestically in Russia.

But, I still think what she did was amazing.

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

Triglav Trophy Junior Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Vasilisa finished 1st out of 33 in the SP, with a score of 54.12.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch the Narcisa Cup / Triglav Trophy as it is on a pay stream.

Looking at the Protocols, there was only one element that had issues.

In the opening element, the Triple Lutz-Double Toe, the Lutz was landed on he quarter. It had the only GOE hit of the programme, at -1.77, but because it had by far the higehst Base Value of the programme, it remained the highest scoring element of the programme. It got -4 from Judge 3; -3 from three Judges; and -2 from Judge 2.

For the remaining elements, the GOE ranged from +0.16 for the second element, the Triple Loop, to +0.91 for the fourth element, the Step Sequence. Apart from a -1 from Judge 3 for the aforementioned Triple Loop, all the Judges marks for the elements with positive GOE were in teh 0 to +3 range.

It should be noted that Vasilisa had both the highest total Technical Elements Score and the highest total Programme Components Score of the field.

Vasilisa is currently 1.23 points ahead of 2nd position, Eleonora CIFERRI (ITA), and 3.67 points ahead of 3rd position, Krista GEORGIEVA (BUL).

Just like the Advanced Novices were after their SP, we can be pretty confident that the current Top 3 will be standing on the podium. But, it is a matter of the order. Although she is leading, Vasilisa needs to put in a good Free Skate, because the girls in 2nd and 3rd are within striking distance.

So let's hope she does have a good Free Skate and can seal the win.

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

Vasilisa will be the 33rd and final skater to start. So, sixth and final skater to go in Group 6.

Vasilisa finished 1st out of 33 in the FS, with a score of 96.68. This meant that she remained in 1st position overall, with a score of 150.80.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch the Narcisa Cup / Triglav Trophy as it is on a pay stream.

Looking at the Protocols, there were only two elements that had issues.

The third element, the Triple Flip, didn't have a clear edge, was landed on the quarter, and she ultimately fell. It had the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -2.65, which meant that it went from having the fifth higehst Base Value of the programme, to being the second lowest scoring element of the programme. Unsurprisingly, it got -5 from all five Judges.

The eighth element, the Triple Salchow, had the smallest GOE hit of the programme, at -1.29. This meant that it went from having the 6th highest Base Value of the programme, to being the fourth lowest scoring element of the programme. It got -3 from all five Judges.

The sixth element, the SIngle Lutz, had neautral GOE, and because it already had the lowest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the lowest scoring element of the programme.

For the remaining elements, the GOE ranged from +0.35 for the fifth element, the Change Foot Combination Spin, to +0.83 for the tenth element, the Choreographic Sequence. All the Judges marks for the elements with postive GOE were in the 0 to +2 range.

Vasilisa's programme comfortably had the highest total Base Value of the field, and she had the highest total Technical Elements Score and the highest total Programme Components Score.

Vasilisa finished the Free Skate 4.24 points ahead of 2nd position, Eleonora CIFERRI (ITA), and 8.10 points ahead of 3rd position, Ekaterina BALAGANSKAIA (SRB).

Overall, Vasilisa finished 5.47 points ahead of 2nd position, Ciferri, and 15.56 points ahead of 3rd position, Balaganskaia.

Although her scores weren't as high as they were last week at the Black Sea Ice Cup, they were still the second highest scores she had achieved since she started competing internationally.

Vasilisa is definitely on a good run of form at the moment. I don't know if she plans to compete again before the end of this season. But, I hope she continues this sort of form into next season.
