Wakaba Higuchi

The first page has been updated with Wakaba's nationals result!

Daisuke Takahashi wrote a ladies recap after Japanese Nationals! Here is the English Translation

This is where he mentioned Wakaba and the other ladies who medaled and will be sent to 4CC and Worlds:

First place finisher Miyahara Satoko (Kansai University) and second place finisher Higuchi Wakaba (Tokyo Nihonbashi Jogakkan High School) made it out of the pack. They don’t just skate their elements and in-between transitions, it’s full of difficult movements. Satoko has the most challenging ones here this year as their difficulty is also performed without any loss of speed. The way she can gain points in these minute areas is what makes her so strong. Higuchi also has difficult transitions that lead to her high-quality jumps. Though, I felt like her speed faltered a bit in the freeskate.

With the three teenagers of Miyahara, Higuchi, and Mihara representing at the World Championships, I have no worries regarding the berths to the PyeongChang Olympics. Because with these three, I do not foresee a huge collapse. Perhaps, the six skaters in the final group could include Higuchi and Mihara, who are making the first appearance at Worlds. To send at most three skaters to the PyeongChang Olympics, it requires the top two finishers on the Japanese team to have a combined placement of 13 or less. Rivals are projected to be the Russians at the top, Americans, and Canadians. I believe our three skaters can do it.

Good luck at 4CC! It's just in a few days. With Satoko withdrawn, I wonder if Wakaba will step up to the plate as the leading Japanese lady at 4CC?

I think the answer is "YES!" :-D

I think she can handle the pressure - there is no higher pressure for Japanese skaters than Nationals, and she has coped with that and finished on the senior's podium the last 3 years in a row... with silver the last two years (and was junior champion the last two years she competed as a junior...)

Wakaba is an ambitious and fierce competitor... she has great programs and costumes this season... she has improved her PCS scoring potential... everything is falling into place! I think she has every chance to medal at 4CC, she could even win it.

GO WAKABA! :-D

Wakaba didn't have the best SP at 4CC 2017 (some say that she looks injured?) but I wish her all the best in the FS! If she is unwell, she has lots of time to heal and get ready for Asian Winter Games and Worlds! :cheer:

Her right foot is injured. I've seen some people talk about a possible Lisfranc fracture? I don't know but I hope this competition won't make it worse. Aren't Rika and Kaori the ones going to Asian Winter Games?

Actually yeah I don't think she's headed to Asian Winter Games after all... I must've mixed up the names  . I hope her foot gets better. Worlds is definitely more important than pushing herself too hard at 4CC.

This might be a completely wrong assumption on my part, but maybe the speculation about it being a Lisfranc fracture is because that's what Yuzu had, so it's just a kind of injury that's on peoples radar now? At least that's me hoping it's something less serious... I guess we'll have to wait for official results either way. Hopefully she'll heal well and be in good shape for worlds.

It started from this article which mentioned "right foot instep pain" and people started speculating about a Lisfranc fracture.

Awww, so sorry Wakaba wasn't able to show us what we know she is capable of. Such a disappointment for her. Heal well Wakaba so you can be in fighting shape for Worlds!
