My rough translation of the Q&A
Q1. What made you start figure skating?
My mother had already decided before I was born that if I was a girl, she was going to have me do figure skating. I started going to skating classes when I entered kindergarten.
Q2. Are there any skaters you like, or anyone who you aim to be like?
I've always like Yuna Kim and I've been aiming to be like Elizaveta Tuktamysheva recently.
Q3. How would you describe your skating in one word (sentence)?
I'd like to be able to say, "skating with freedom and speed!" with confidence.
Q4. Do you ever get nervous before competitions?
There are times when I get really nervous and other times I don't get very nervous but I take a breath before the opening pose to relax my mind.
Q5. What is figure skating to you?
Something that I cannot live without.
Q6. What do you do on your days off?
I hang out with friends or I relax at home.
Q7. What subjects do you like at school?
PE and English.
Q8. What is your favorite food?
I don't have any particular dislikes so I like everything equally. Actually, I like chocolates and ice cream but I gain weight easily so I try not to think about them.

The latest message video:

She says that she couldn't do as well as she wanted to in the first half of the season because she injured herself but because she took care of the injury, she's happy she was able to do better in the second half of the season.
The most memorable competition of the season for her was at Nationals. It's been her dream to be in the same competition with Mao and also, she skated well there so she's glad about that.
For next season, she wants to include the 3A, 3Lz-3Lo in her programs.

Also, Wakaba's been taking classes at Tetsuya Kumakawa's ballet school. This post is from February 14th this year but I believe she's been there longer.

Thanks for sharing! I see Wakaba's still interested in the 3A. She performed the 3Lz-3Lo already in competition at her first JGP I believe. I wonder if she's still going to backload her SP jumps.

I'm actually more excited about her taking lessons from Tetsuya Kumakawa and choreo from Bourne and Scali than a possible 3A / 3Lz-3Lo layout. She did have some trouble with that combo this season so if she wants to backload her SP again, she needs to get used to it before including a 3A. Nevertheless, I think she will go to Worlds next season.

If she goes to worlds next year I wonder who she will knock off the world team... (My gut says Rika but I really like her). She's got some ambitious technical upgrades planned, but like others have mentioned, I'm hoping she taps into her artistic potential this season. With the right music and choreography, she can really make a great senior debut and possibly get on the world team.

Rika was juuuust barely bumped off the podium this season but I'm afraid she will be replaced with Mao if she places 3rd and Mao places 4th. It will depend on her GP season I guess.

True, I do think Mao is a good bet for the Worlds team next season even if she places a spot below Rika. I wish Japan had more ladies spots. Their field is so deep!

Wakaba looks a lot older in those pictures - maybe even taller? It seemed like yesterday when she was 13 going to the junior grand prix for the first time...

what? byakuyakou?:eeking:
whos the coreographer?
cant wait to see!

If it's the SP, then it's Shae-Lynn Bourne.

From PIW reports, Wakaba's new SP choreographer is Shae-Lynn Bourne and FS is Massimo Scali
She hasn't revealed the music yet (still a secret).

I thought it might be the SP because of this hint she gave.

More info on her new programs - source
SP - quiet with a sense of sorrow
FS - like a queen!

Her costume was a blue and white ombre dress but at least she didn't have a blood stained glove on :drama:

And her spins were in both directions  I've got to see this!

Blue and white ombre huh :palmf:

Where'd she get the idea from? Byakuyako is a 10 year old drama and it's... definitely not for girls her age. Do we know if she's skating to the main theme (the one Machida skated to) or Shibasaki Kou's "Kage"?
