Wenjing Sui & Cong Han

Forgot to post this originally, here's the video to watch the hilarious interview where these 3 pictures are from. English subtitled!

I am posting that video in Skater pronunciation thread. I hope someone will edit it, because commentators need to learn to pronounce Cong right!

I wonder if they will need quad throw... I mean, S/M if they skate clean both programs might actually give them a run for their money.

Aw, too bad about the one fall, but better here than the olympics! When was the last time Cong made a major mistake?
I love that the b.esp. commentators expected higher, very close to the lead. I think they can win it all, but no room for error.

2015 SA LP where she landed her 3S  i didnt see the fall coming but rest was the highest quality and to me their connection is second to none  if it wasnt for the fall they would be 1st by at least a point, hopefully they got the falls out of their system and will deliver on LP (and at olympics :D ), they have time to refocus with the day off

If they skate like they did at NHK, there should be no problem :agree: I'm glad they're getting their mistakes out early, better here than in more important competitions! GPF hasn't had the best track record for replicating Olympic podiums so there's that :)

Congrats on silver in GPF! :cheer:

I expect them to skip 4CC... but they will do Nationals (or was it Chinese Grand Prix? I can;t remmeber), right?

I'm willing to bet that they'll skip Chinese Nationals. In fact, I was thinking that this may be their last major international competition before the olympics! That could be advantageous or disadvantageous for them.

People are discussing whether they should bring back the 4S because they didn't win at the GPF despite a relatively clean FS... I'm not sure if the risk is worth it, especially if they haven't been doing it all season. But then again, they need to find way to make up more points.

I'm the one who don't want them to bring back 4Th. Them have higher BV in FS, and still have spaces to improve the TCS, not mention the fall in SP. If they do their best in OG, there's still a chance for the gold. They already win on their ages, so leave more possibility in the future, road is long.

I'm afraid they still might lose out on PCS (which perplexes me honestly). Their PCS in the SP was the highest (despite the fall) but they've didn't get as high on PCS marks in the FS. I'm extremely apprehensive about the 4S because the success rate doesn't seem like it's strong enough to include right before the Olympics. Who knows how they would've scored w/o the mistake, or if they had skated last (the skate order seems to really influence the scores as well, I've noticed).
IMO they've been so much stronger this season than they have in the past so I wouldn't discount their chances at all :) In fact, I think this kind of 'reality check' might be helpful and motivate them further. Especially if they aren't competing anymore until the Olympics.

Well, I'd love them to try the scenario with quad throw (if they are ready, I think they do practise the throw even if they aren't going to use it). They already know the scenario without it pretty well. But they'd have to compete somewhere....

That's what I'm worried about, because I don't think they have another competition until the Olympics

Argh, the problems of Olympics season :shame:

IDK, I can see it going either way. An extra competition may not be a good thing, as seen when they just went to Shanghai Trophy a few weeks ago, therefore reducing the time they got to practice their SP, possibly contributing to their mistake.
However, the extra int. competition would be helpful for them if they wanted to test out the ThS or even build on their PCS marks, which they somehow need to do before the Olympics.

Yup, I don't really understand why there was such a big difference in PCS today. It's not like S/H fell or anything.... Too bad Shanghai Trophy isn't at the begining of January, it would be ideal. I don't reallly want them to go to 4CC, Pairs have the worst schedule out of all at Olympics if you take part in Team Event, they need to properly prepare.

Yeah the PCS gap was the most troubling for me, even though they did win in the SP. It's more difficult to find solutions to raise the PCS marks in comparison to the TES. I'm stumped for what else they could do. In this situation, I do think an extra competition could be helpful... (maybe they could sneak into Euros  )

To be honest, I kind of don't even want them competing in the Olympics team event. China isn't that much of a contender anyways, so it's not like they'll benefit with making S/H skate an extra full event.

Well, if they skipped Team Event (China does have two other teams after all), maybe they could go to 4CC? Or at least do Chinese Nationals.

Top Chinese skaters are notorious for skipping the national domestic event because it's not weighted in terms of Worlds and Olympics selections I believe. S/H already know they're going to the Olympics, and the last time I remember them competing was when they were in competition with Peng/Zhang for being considered China's #1 team back in 2014.

As for 4CC, it's really unfortunate that it's so close to the Olympics. That's why so many skaters skip out in favor of preparing for the Olympics. Personally, I don't think they'll go to either, since it's not really beneficial. I think 4CC is definitely out, but maybe nats? At this point, I'm not sure what their team is planning to do for Olympics prep...

What we need is some news.... I'm waiting for some post GPF interviews, hope there will be statements regarding if they'll compete anywhere before Olympics and if they'll compete in Team Event, though I'm pretty sure they'll want to.

That's true, I'm keeping my eyes peeled for any announcements. Their team seems to know what they're doing, so I'm really anticipating it. As for the team event, I'm also unsure. They skipped out on WTT this past season probably to prepare for the Olympics so it shows that they're taking this season very seriously. Yu/Zhang could also easily be sent to the team event instead because they're a solid team. Chinese pairs don't even do B competitions so that's why I think they may just train the rest of the time before February... It's just frustrating as fan to have to wait for news like this
