What are the three worst musical themes in figure skating?

The cover of "Money, Money, Money" that Gubanova skated to this season (I suppose the theme here would just be bad covers of songs).

IMHO music/cover itself is fine or even excellent but its interpretation in figure skating/choreographies-brrr!- have been... little bit vulgar, unless I miss some good one. In general, I totally agree "Money, Money, Money" is not for figure skating-no, no.

TBH this whole program was a hard no, she can do so much better with her choices.

Egyptians/Oriental themes (I don't mean the cultures are intrinsically undesirable, but practically the music and choreography is almost always banal, seemingly intentionally stereotypical and completely meaningless; unsophisticated).

Someone else mentioned juniors skating to "adult" themes. I think it doesn't even need to be mentioned that its an issue. I dont like those themes in general in skating though. I mean, I dont mind playful and dancey programs, but when the whole focus is erotic I just dont know if I can understand how this is meant for skating. I dont think this is an unpopular opinion outside of a vocal minority.

The problem is, people (and therefore quite a bit of the audience being sought) like Carmen. Any poll of favourite opera/classical music, it's there. It's the mac and cheese or pepperoni pizza of opera music. I can't take it seriously because of a set of appallingly earwormy garagedoor ads of my extreme youth and also Gerard Hoffnung... but I have to admit, it's a popular choice for a reason.

And to be honest, 90% of the "what music would you like to see" thread. Most of them are not skateable and just favorites of the poster IMO.

Guilty as charged although I do tell myself that with the right skater..........

Had to add Roxanne and Libertango. My ears cringe. Oh and also most of the music Benoit Richaud chooses for his skaters. It's usually dark and not very lyrical although I do like his choreography.

Tally - I DO like Carmen as the opera, not just the background for a skating program.

Madame Butterfly.
As a Japanese woman, I don't like this Opera. I admit the music is very beautiful, but I dislike the story.
I am not comfortable watching any skater skating in kimono-like outfits to this music, even if it is Mao Asada, my favorite skater of all time.
I am wondering if the Chinese people feel the same way about Turandot.

Please don't get me wrong, I love Italian Opera in general

Yes! I remember that happening! That has also happened when several skaters skated to Michael Buble's "Feelin' Good"(was that also @ 2016 Worlds in Boston). I actually like the song, but it gets tiresome being used so often during one week of competition.

Tragic operatic death scenes are kind of a downer for me. Some fine music,, but leave out the elaborate costumes and melodramatic story-telling.

And Phantom of the Opera in 2014-15 to the point where Kurt Browning joked (when watching Yuzuru at the GPF) that 'today I didn't even mind hearing Phantom of the Opera again' Then again, there were all the RDs last year with Boney M, I felt sometimes like throwing something (or cursing loudly enough to scare the cat) through the screen at them.

It does seem to sometimes get to the point (especially if favourite skaters join in, we watch them a lot) where I've heard the music cuts so often the original piece of music sounds all wrong.

I feel vindicated because even Leonard Cohen said he didn't like it.

Of course, Sota (whom I love) is skating to it this year, so I will just have to lower the sound and enjoy his beautiful skating.

I was baffled when it was sung during the opening ceremonies for the 2010 Olympics. OK, inexplicably popular song by a Canadian, but otherwise....wrong choice, wrong occasion. Or just play an instrumental version. Or use one of the other half-dozen versions of the lyrics. Or write your own lyrics. (Do you have to give yourself permission if you write your own music to skate to?)

I like the song "Hallelujah" (especially k.d. Lang's version), but I get it when a song is overused.

If I NEVER hear Lara Fabian's "Je Suis Malade" again, I will celebrate! That song makes me "malade!"
