What are you listening to right now?

Is it too early yet for Christmas songs?

Well, in case it is, here is something a little bit different to what you normally hear.

Just found out that this song from 2003 (was it really that long ago?! ) has been re-released:

Sido - "Weihnachtssong"

Not my type of music at all. But I have always found it amusing as an alternative to the same old songs we always hear at this time of year.

EDIT: I probably should have added a Parental Advisory warning. The lyrics are actually fine, but there are a few gestures in the video that people may find offensive.

Elliot Smith

Thanks for the list......there are certainly a few on there I've not checked out but will.

I used to play open mic nights with a couple musicians and this Ray Lamontagne song was my favorite one we played.

I spent all night learning that song on my acoustic...it's sad my voice does it such little justice. I can play the guitar part pretty well though :)

You are lucky to have such a talent with the ability to express it... it is a gift.

When I was trying to find a clip of Mariah Bell's Skate America LP today, as I just typed "Mariah" on YouTube, and then Mariah Carey is the first suggested key word. :)

The very first song suggested is of course, All I want from You is Merry Christmas.

Listening to Sido yesterday made me realise how long it has been since I listened to German music. Like, during my teenage years and early 20's, I lived on the German music channels (particularly VIVA)

So, I decided to look up some of the music I used to listen to.

To start, here are 2 songs from a German girl band, Fräulein Wunder. They were in their mid-to-late-teens at the time, so I suppose they are mid-20's now. The songs are very different styles to each other, but are both absolutely brilliant!

Fräulein Wunder - "Wenn ich ein Junge wär"
Fräulein Wunder - "Sternradio"

The band only released 3 singles in total. So I suppose I should link to the middle release as well. It's still a very good song, but I prefer the other 2 songs.

Fräulein Wunder - "Mein Herz ist Gift für Dich"

Unfortunately, Fräulein Wunder were only around for a few years. Which is a real shame. I would love to see them come back, as they were really great.

There just aren't enough good all-female rock bands around nowadays!
