A few days ago, I taped something, and at the end of the recording was the first 5 minutes of the film "Beyond Suspicion" (2018). And within those 5 minutes, there was a scene in a pub. A singer and backing band were performing "Ball Of Confusion" by the Temptations. And it was absolutely brilliant!
I found some copies of the whole film (under it's alternative title, "Bent") on Odnoklassniki, and watched the credits at the end to find out who was singing "Ball Of Confusion". But for this song, they only tell you the members of the band, not the singer. From what little info I have been able to find out online, there is a theory that it was actually dubbed. Apparently we were seeing Cayman Islands actress Grace Byers, but we were hearing Italian singer Livia Ferri.
However, after looking Livia up and listening to her singing some other songs (including the song from the film that she is actually credited with, "All We Had"), I'm not entirely convinced that it is her singing "Ball Of Confusion". So, I am going to be cautious and not credit anybody in this post.
Here is the only copy I can find on YouTube of this version of "Ball Of Confusion". It is just the audio, which has been ripped directly from the film. So, unfortunately, it includes characters talking in the foreground. But, at least it means I can let you hear it:

Over the years, I have been regularly looking on YouTube for people playing the full length version of Barry Manilow's "Could It Be Magic" on the piano. And this one, which was posted in November, is definitely the best version I have heard yet:

However, when checking YouTube for new videos of Chiara and Vayana Hristova for summer updates to their Fan Fest threads, I came across the following version, which was posted in February. And for me, it comes in a close second:
Adelina Hristova - "Could It Be Magic"
There are quite a few Bulgarian skaters with the surname Hristova / Hristov. I wonder if Adelina is related to any of them...
If any of them are, it would be cool if they skated to a piece played by her.
As a final side note, I once read a translation of an article about Chiara and Vayana, and "сестри Христови" (Hristova sisters) came out as "sisters of Christ". And I thought "that sounds like an order of nuns!"

Just listened to the song that the youngest of my kids is using as her Short Programme music for the coming season:

What a song!
Everybody knows by now that I love Middle Eastern music. And whilst Bashkortostan isn't in the Middle East (it's just above the north-western corner of Kazakhstan), Bashkir is a Turkic language and the majority of the population are Muslim. So, you can understand why the music has a similar sort of feel.
Working on the assumption that skaters have to like the music they are skating to (because, let's face it, you couldn't spend hours on end listening to the same music over and over again if you didn't like it. That would drive you crazy!), this little girl must have the same taste in music as me. Because I haven't seen a programme from her yet where I didn't really love the music that she was skating to.
Then again, it might all have been written in the stars. Although there is a 3 year age difference, her coach and I have the same birthday...

I am afraid that we are now in a world without Ozzy Osbourne. He died yesterday at the age of 76, just 17 days after Black Sabbath's big farewell concert in their hometown of Birmingham.
What can I say? He was a legend!
Although Ozzy is best known as being the front man of Black Sabbath, he also released a lot of solo material. The last of the solo songs he performed at the concert (before finishing up with Black Sabbath's biggest songs) was this:
Ozzy Osbourne - "Crazy Train"
And Austria's Hannah Frank included it as part of her SP music for a couple of seasons recently:
Hannah Frank - 2023 ISU Junior Grand Prix Budapest SP
In her list of dream programmes a few years back, my partner in crime @elektra blue included this song, Black Sabbath's biggest hit single:
Black Sabbath - "Paranoid"
I don't know if anybody has ever skated to it, but it turned out to be the final song that Ozzy performed in concert.
But, the penultimate song performed at the concert seems the most fitting to finish this post with:
Black Sabbath - "Iron Man"
My thoughts are with all his family, friends and fans.

he lived like an icon and he died like a f*cking icon. he knew he was about to die when he started the tour and he chose to go this way. in one of his recent songs he says "i don't want to die an ordinary man" mission accomplished uncle.

As I said in another thread, we thought of using Orinoco Flow, which is the last track on this disk. But on trying it, we decided while ballroom dance (where I've used that for a rhumba program) wants a steady, unchanging rhythm, pairs skating needs punctuation points and more variety. While we talked about this, the CD player kept running and since Orinoco Flow was the last track, it switched back to the beginning and we heard this one. Search over
