What do you get out of watching skating

I guess, my answer is that it takes me back in time to my figure skating days - in a way - and keeps me connected to the figure skating world. I miss those days when I would head for the rink, lace up my skates and just skate for hours at a time without a care in the world. Of course, I never competed but still had to put in the work to pass tests. Other than watching ballet dancers perform nothing matches the joy of watching skaters glide effortlessly across the ice, like they can fly without leaving the earth. It makes me want to grab my skates and head to the nearest rink. Nice thread.

Oh yes! My coach has actually realised there's a noticeable difference in my skating on days immediately after I've been watching skating - especially my favourites. Why, the day after Jason won bronze at TEB, I spun the best camel spin I've ever spun!

Winter sleep deprivation when I need to hibernate.

Also, when I'm super anxious or overexcited that I need to relieve, I watch best of- videos to cry them out. Such a great prescription of catharsis. I made my friend do the same, and worked on her.

I grew up taking dance lessons, so any type of performance draws me in. I love the creativity and athleticism. But most of all, I love watching someone skate the program they've dreamed about all season, regardless of final placements. At last years US nationals, Alexa Scimeca's reaction to her and Chris Knierim's free skate was priceless and really made me root for them. Of course, the Olympics are the best of this (i.e. Sarah Hughes, Evan)
