What If Rohene Ward Skates 2 Clean Programs?

I always wondered why some skaters are consistent and other are not. Is it technique or mental toughness. Maybe a combination of both. I would love to see RW put together two great programs and make the World team. Maybe this will be his year.

If Rohene skates two even moderately clean programs, you will hear my shout all the way up in St. Paul. If he skates two completely clean programs, I will probably knock myself out jumping and hitting my head on the ceiling. If he medals, I will faint dead away.

I know he's capable of it and I would love love love it, but don't want to tempt the skate gods.

I laughed so hard reading this 'cuz this is exactly how I feel - and what I will do!!!

Rohene has discussed quite clearly that he has (historically) carried mistakes around in his program like toilet paper stuck on your shoe. Typically when he has made one mistake, it turns into another and another... He has worked a bit with Robin Wagner on this particular aspect of his skating. If you saw his Mids performance in the LP, you would say he's been making great strides in that area as he made a mistake on one thing and it didn't carry over to the next and the next... Basically, it seems to me that when he's competing, he has an issue staying in the moment throughout the entire performance. He either fast forwards or rewinds when he's in the middle of something and it makes a mess at some point.

Chances are slim to none. I love watching him though. I think he'll finish in the 8th-12th range.

I just want to see him do well enough so that he can skate with a show ,like Stars on Ice. Unfortunately, they seem to have a surplus of male skaters who transition to show skating after their competitive days are over, so there's no way he'll make it without a medal. He's capable of captivating an audience, that's for sure.

IF he skates two clean programs, he will be in the top 3. Note I put IF in capital letters. He's got a 4, he's got L4 spins and highly difficult (L3 +) footwork. Technically, it's there in spades. He has to skate it and maintain his focus through BOTH programs.

If you've never seen Rohene live, it's a total treat. Even being on the ice with him when he skates his programs, you almost have to stop and watch. He completely draws your eye. We always talk about the IT factor with the ladies and you rarely see it in male skaters, but Ro's got IT. I was lucky enough to be visiting in MN and he was on a FS session after me. WOW!

I REALLY want him to do well. It is his home town, what more cold he want but to do amazingly. This definitely reminds me of Rudy Galindo in '96. If we think about it, the same situation could happen here......... Let us hope so!!!!!!!!!

Other than baby ballerina's, the only true underdog moment I can recall at US Nationals is Rudy Galindo's win in 1996. I don't think he even stood near the podium at a US Sr Nationals as a men's skater and then, wham, he's planning to retire and wins it in his hometown.

I remember watching and saving Nationals to tape that night. Back then, I was only recording the potential winners. When they said that this would be Rudy's final Nationals appearance, I decided to include him because he and Kristi Y had been a pairs team. OMG, it was a truly unforgettable moment for him 2 put together 2 wonderful performances. I also thought it was great that he proved it wasn't just a fluke when he won bronze at Worlds' the same year.

As for Rohene, I've only scene him on TV, but you can tell he's special. I hope that he can one day pull it together and put together 2 clean performances. If he were to do that, I would think that he would be on the podium.

Underdog moment

Johnny Weirs first championship was an underdog moment. He'd fallen apart and withdrawn the previous year and had to qualify to be there in sectionals and regionals. When he came back, it was with a vengence.

Yes, I feel Rohene would have to skate a clean SP and a clean LP with all his planned difficulty like Rudy did in '96 and Johnny did in '04 and then have Evan and Johnny make mistakes, much like Todd Eldredge did in '96 and Michael Weiss did in '04 to allow Ward a top spot and a trip to Worlds.

Ward is a very interesting skater to watch, but I don´t think that he can handle the pressure to skate two clean programmes in a competition. If he´ll manage it now at the Nationals, I will be surprised and glad.

 I feel EXACTLY the same way.

So Im hoping we all wake up from fainting with our voices gone from screaming and a bump on our heads from hittting the ceiling:agree:
