What rule changes would you like to see next season?

As for the falls, I think they're punished enough. Certainly they're punished now much more than in the last Olympic cycle. Let's take a fall on the 4Lz as an example. In the old rules the BV was 13.6. A fall resulted in –4 GOE, but GOE wasn't proportional to the BV back then, so the skater got 13.6–4=9.6 points. Of course there also was 1 point deduction, hence the score for the 4Lz was basically 8.6 points.

Now, however, 4Lz is worth 11.5 ponts. A fall leads to –5 GOE which means –50% of the BV, which is 5.75. With the 1 point deduction it gives us 4.75. I'd say that is a quite severe punishment, considering that the BV of 3Lz is 5.9. Not to mention that falls also have negative impact on PCS.
Yes, totally agree. The +5/-5 system really changed the quads scoring. Before that, there were skaters that went out doing quads they KNEW they could never land but still cashed in the points. Now a fall on a quad means it scores less than a bad triple. So the message from the ISU is clear here, don't do stuff you can't handle.

I repeat myself, have written this already under in some other topic. Musicality has nearly nothing to do with techical skills. Very musical persons get low marks of musicality, if they are techinally not good enough. Interpretation of music is useless and could be removed, because judging of it have nothing to do with it, it is always straight related to technical skills. It is weird that somebody who got some years ago 10s does not get them anyore, if there are enough new skaters who are techinally better and have more difficult jumps.

You must not have watched the Men’s Free in Skate Canada.

I get your point, but I'm not sure it's fair to judge the entire men's discipline based on what we say at Skate Canada.

That was just awful. I don't know what was going on there. It should be noted that the winner did not fall.

If the message is so clear, why do we still get hot mess splat fest from men? :p

I think it's because the best men are pushing the boundaries. The other guys have to take the risk or accept being second tier.

These guys aren't dumb. In less than a year, Vincent has gone from the guy who didn't make the FS at World's to winning all his competitions, including a GP event, defeating the reigning World Champ.

What was the difference? He started delivering the quads he can do in practice on competition ice. I imagine they're thinking, "Hey if he can do it, so can I."

It was awful. I’m given to understand there was something wrong with the ice, and was reminded of a comp where there were actual puddles of water on the ice. Someone should ensure the ice made at these competitions isn’t likely to kill anyone and if they can’t make decent ice they shouldn’t host competitions.

I know, right?! This blossom pattern is insane:
also, my point in the rules change would not mean that those events necessarily need to be broadcast live or for tv... and that figures specialists would win more points.... i mentioned that the skaters could be ranked in their figures to determinate the skating order for the SP. That's very different. Skaters could arrive at the rink, have some practice to feel the ice etc.. then the competition could happen like in this video where a few skaters do their pattern of choice on the ice... it gets judged etc... and then a ranking is established. I do not imagine that it would be done at all competitions.. perhaps just at ISU championships... when skaters are there for the whole week anyways. A recap could be shown with the best figures or actually some stars skaters missing their figures... but it would be a very great asset for the sport as athletes would have to be somewhat competent in skating skills.... seeing Gary Beacom on one foot there, gliding back and forth was mesmerizing. I bet very few athletes can do this right now. As a matter of fact, Patrick Chan did a lot of figures and credits that training for his incomparable skating skills. We all know that the starting order has an effect on scoring, especially when it comes to PCS. I think that getting a late starting order based on a result in figures would perhaps favour better all around skaters in PCS... and would be fairer, especially for newcomers who need to build a reputation to get later and later in the starting orders to get appropriate PCS.... or for instance, when a skater is injured or not able to qualify for ISU championships one year and lose a lot of world ranking points, they get sunk in the skating order... which is never good... with a prelim event of figures to establish the starting order, every competition would start new, instead of starting with a ranking based on previously skated and judged events... Also, of course, I am not thinking skaters would be required to do full 5 minute figures... there are certainly simpler and shorter patterns that could be utilized. Isn't the sport called figure skating after all? Or is it ice jumping?

No more of those weird "illusion" entrances to the layback spin! 😖 it's become formulaic, and it's not even pretty!
They're not even that hard.. I only do them because it's an easy level. Easy being the key word. It's not a difficult entry because it's not difficult. Took me maybe an hour of practice to learn.

If I remember correctly Keegan fell twice and he was the only skater with more than one fall. I really don't consider Men's Free at Skate Canada to be a splat fest.
I thought it was so terrible - and dangerous - that I’ve purposefully erased it from my memory as much as possible. It does seem there was a problem with the ice based on what I’ve heard.

I think all elements should have higher value in second part of the program. It's not like only jumps are harder to do when you're tired.
well.. that's interesting.. so here is what would happen : all high scoring elements would be done in the second half... so we would get spins and steps in the first half and all the jumps back loaded in singles.... in dance, skaters would put the choreo elements first and keep the very heavy scoring step sequence and twizzles near the end... and then, in pairs... pretty much the jumps might go first saving the lifts for the end.... not sure that works out into balanced programs....

don't forget to rename the sport because that is a new one
Well, come up with the new name and I’ll give you royalties. Haha

Also the compulsory figures in figure skating no longer exist and they didn’t change the name did they?

According to Wikipedia:
Figure skating is a sport in which individuals, pairs, or groups perform on figure skates on ice.

So 12 quads performed on figures skates is still figure skating.

Maybe it's already been mentioned here, but I would like the ISU to re-evaluate the unnecessarily strict status for Challengers. I want these competitions to lose its status only for the categories that don't meet the number of participants/countries quota. For example it's unfair if an Asian Challenger loses its status in singles categories due to limited entries in pairs and ice dance, like this year.
