When will Russian skaters return to competition?

I think another sign in support is that ISU is talking about extending the season and introducing a semi-final in GP. I feel they need more skaters in at least some disciplines than is currently available to fill out semi-finals, unless a semi-final is the same as the final and they just skate it twice. But then again... nothing yet.

The addition of junior and novice profiles to the ISU app is interesting, but it doesn't tell us why they were added. It could simply be part of the app's ongoing expansion of athlete data.

Recent news articles from RIA Novosti, citing unnamed sources, have suggested that the ISU Council has discussed or may discuss participation issues, but those reports have not confirmed.

Until the ISU announces a policy change, it's probably best not to assume the profiles are connected to any decision regarding Russian participation.

Russia is still a member of the isu. Profiles really don’t mean anything. There are still tons of profiles

Russian juniors/novices are being added to the isu app right now, so a positive sign towards them being allowed back, I'd say
As I understand it, they've been there for some time, but it's only now that they've been noticed. And this applies not only to juniors, but also to seniors who never competed internationally such as Yametova. I don't think it has anything to do with the Congress.

The database is not searchable by the time the entry was made, at least from the ISU website. There are entries for current novice skaters, most of them born in 2012 (?), reserve/novice team, and there is entry for Sambuev which falls out of the pattern since I don't think Sambuev had results of note prior to last season (is he on reserve?). It's like 8 pm in Switzerland atm, so any communication will have to wait another 12+ hours from anything from HQ.

According to an article today from TASS:
The International Skating Union (ISU) will soon announce a decision on the admission of Russian figure skaters to competitions. This was reported to TASS by the press service of the ISU.

The meeting of the ISU Council was held in Tenerife, Spain.

"We will return [with an answer to the question about the admission of Russian figure skaters] in the near future," the ISU press service said.
The ISU has not put this out publicly that I'm aware of? Also, "near future" is vague....🤷‍♀️

Well, near future to me sounds like a couple of months at most. IF Russian skaters are allowed again next season, I guess they will start with juniors to JGP and maybe allow seniors to compete at Challengers?

If seniors are allowed, then another question comes to mind. Will Russian senior skaters be eligible for the Alternate List for the GPs? And frankly, Gumennik and Petrosian do have good SBs from this season (they are both 11th)...which should give them two GP spots normally. Will that happen?

This was posted on Facebook by the skating lesson quoting Bagryantseva. I don’t know how to include links, so bere is the text, which is one of the sources for 'soonTM'. I saw the press center mentioned, but it was never specified with confirming links who inquired, who responded and when. It feels like an undocumented personal communication.

Journalist Maya Bagryantseva reported that a communiqué from the International Skating Union (ISU) will be published soon.

The ISU Election Congress was held in Tenerife from June 10–12, and the first meetings of the organization’s elected board were held on June 13–14. The ISU was expected to announce the admission of Russian juniors, but after the events in Tenerife concluded, this never happened.

“Everyone’s on edge, waiting for a decision. I urge everyone not to get angry—either at the ISU or the Federation. The Council was dealing with a million different issues—they all need to be brought together, finalized, and formalized.”

This applies to external organizations and many national federations besides us, and to serious decisions for this and the next season (which are not at all limited to our admission or non-admission).

There will be a communiqué from the ISU—and more than one, give it time. Things are even worse for athletes now, but everyone is going to training and doing their jobs.

What to expect in the near future:

– the distribution of quotas for the Junior Grand Prix series. Russia and Belarus will definitely be included there, as has been the case in all recent seasons. The ISU always reserves quotas for our skaters (this is what the document looked like a year ago) – “with some allowance for eligibility.”

– the distribution among the stages of the adult Grand Prix series. There will be plenty to discuss, believe me.

– the final list of Challengers. This is also important.

– the results of the first technical committee meetings with new members. For example, dance fans are interested to know who else will be on the technical committee – usually it’s one skater and one coach.

– from the same dance technical committee – the official rhythm dance document for next season. Yes, we know it’s a waltz, but everyone’s waiting for details.

“So let’s not panic and wait calmly,” Bagryantseva wrote on the Telegram channel “Lutz for everyone!”

The journalists say that it was indeed about the very near future.

It'll most likely be published this week, as is usually the case with everything discussed at the Congress (and Kim has confirmed that it was discussed).

It sounds like the decision may be announced along with the GP assignments, which I find encouraging. I’ll wait calmly until then.

At this point it's hard to feel sorry for them. They deserve to be banned for the last 5 world championships for being so meek and submissive to the ISU. Sikharulidze has no backbone at all, but where are the skaters who are probably dollar millionaires (or on the government teet for life) like Zagitova, Valieva, with nothing lose standing up for themselves and their fellow competitors, and then you have Mishin 85 how many more years has he got left and still more concerned with protecting his patch than making a stand.

I love the Russian skaters, but they need to be taught a lesson at this point and banned for another year. In other sports they fought for their rights and were reinstated, Russian skaters just don't deserve it. And when they come back they will be lowballed and they will sit and take it once again.

It was their choice.

How can they not be livid with this ban for FIVE world championships in a row? Why should anyone help them or petition for them when they don't have the courage to stand up for themselves. This would have been a slam dunk case at CAS.

Skaters should have demanded Sikharulidze stand down yesterday. No-one has ever done more damage to the sport in Russia.

The ISU is just mocking them at this point, what could there possibly be to discuss? They are either reinstated or not. The IOC says Russian athletes need to be reinstated, but the ISU clearly has no fear of repercussions.
