Only transitions. She needs a few more advanced steps in certain parts of the program. The rest are well deserved. Her musical interpretation is excellent to the music she chooses, she would not interpret the Vienesse waltz well probably but that is not what she skates to.

Irina is not overmarked. If the other ladies don't like it, let them raise their games.

I think she tends to skate with great power and energy. That's what saves her because her positions tend to be sloppy. She skates to music without it being anything but sound to her. I always feel her relationship to the music and choreography is applied like heavy make up. It may cover up some unfortunate things, but adds no beauty.

I agree. I voted for everything. Sure, she may be a good jumper, but she has no run out. She is sloppy and a mess in posture and usage of her arms and legs, bobs up and down during crossovers. Yes, she's fast and powerful but she really needs to work on her positions in general just in crossovers. It drives me crazy! That should not get her 8.00s and 9.00s. Irina has no choreography; she could be skating to anything during either program, IMO.

Irina has wonderful interpretation of her music, she has great expression and has the ability to bring the drama and soul out of any music she skates to. Her edge quality is excellent, and her basic skating is secure and sound. Her performance level is great, she has a command of the ice and conviction that draws you in as a viewer.

overmarked!!

She is most definitely overmarked in choreography & interpertation. I'll be glad when they limit the times you can pull yourself into an almost Bielman position. She does have great skating skills & wonderful technical ability but you could change the music every competition & she would skate it the same.

Oh yeah...forgot to include a choice for "I don't think she's overmarked". Oh well. Post if you think she gets the marks she deserves.
I don't think you will get representative results with not adding that option- You can't even vote "others" in your poll to comensate for that.

And yes, I don't think Irina is overmarked, she . If she is on, her energy is so much transmitted to the audience, it makes you happy watching her.
Actually she is one of two skaters, who inspired me, to take up skating lessons by myself after having watched them skating live. :)

I belive that she's only overmarked in Performance/Execution because of the ugly positions she's in when she strokes.

I realize that, and that's what sucks...I can't go in and change it once I submit it.

I think she is overmarked in almost everything except skating skills. She has weak transitions, I am not a fan of her choreography and I also do not think she executes landings well. However, I think her basic skating skills are very strong with regard to speed, edges etc. I like Irina as a personality and she makes the sport more interesting, but she is not my favorite to watch.

Some people seem to think what was once called artistic impression, then changed to presentation, now changed to program component skills, is just about perfectly refined and elegant skating. If that were the case they wouldnt keep trying to change the name of the second mark to change that misconception, why do you think they just didnt leave it at artistic impression in the first place, and change it to artistic component scores under the new COP.
Irina does not have the prettiest positions or more elegant skating, but she that does not mean she is just some jumping bean with only technical skills. Her expression, her great basic skating, her ability to interpret music, her spunk and flair on the ice, all make her second mark high and justifiably so.

What a question?!?
Irina is NOT overmarked!
If the old judging system would still be active, and if I should give to her "old" type of component marks, I would give her 6.0. for everything! She is the best and she will stay! And please, don't ask theese funny questions, I really was laughing when I red it...:chorus: how can anyone poosibly think like that...

Where is the "None" option so I can vote for that, in all seriousness? One person's "ugly" position is another person's strong one.

I already said in the original post that I forgot to add it. And furthermore, there's no way for me to add it in there once I submit it.

Her positions aren't just not pretty. Some are downright ungainly. She just doesn't have the line working for her. IMO, power doesn't make up the difference. I feel that powerful but awkward positions are just powerfully awkward and I don't enjoy seeing that. Still more, I don't like seeing less than nice positions rewarded as if they were top-of-the-line. I didn't like it under 6.0 and don't like it now.

Irina does have many good qualities to her skating, enough to rightfully win the OGM, but there are serious flaws in her skating that aren't reflected in the scores. She wins on her athleticism, but you can't tell it from the marks she gets. I don't object to her winning, but there's something not quite right about the marks that put her up there with the best artistically when, IMO, she's not reached that "mountaintop" yet.

"None" is now open for business.

Thanks much, MM.

So I take it only admins/mods can add/delete poll choices after they've been posted?

Yes. In fact, I just figured out how to do it.

The reason that you can't modify your own poll is the same reason that you can't change the title of a thread that you start -- once other people vote or post, the thread belongs to everyone, not just to the thread starter. Something like that.

Anyway, if you want something like that done, just PM one of the mods.

MM :)

I have to vote for choreography and interpretation after seeing that travesty last year (?) where she wore that horrid costume with the playing cards and stopped on the ice to laboriously deal out cards. Save it for Disney on Ice's Hunchback of Notre Dame!
