Which skaters seem to really enjoy skating?

I'm kind of surprised that nobody has mentioned Lesley Hawker. She will be 27 in May and she still looks like the most eager person on the ice to me. Let's face it, she will probably never win nationals but that doesn't stop her from trying! To hang in at her relatively "advanced" age must mean she loves it. She certainly isn't getting rich from it that's for sure! Plus, does anybody have a bigger smile when they are finished than Les?!!

When she skated she looked like she was enjoying herself. I know she doesn't skate anymore.

Of the current crop, the standout for me in this department is Ashley Wagner. She really won me over at Bompard with her attitude -- she was having a great time, and it showed both on and off the ice.

I think all the skaters really enjoy skating. That’s why they are doing it.
Sometimes skaters have a bad day, and bad seasons, and they might not look like they are enjoying it at that time. But deep inside, they love skating. :)

So true! I like your posts:)

Katarina Witt, Janet Lynn, Tara Lipinski, Michelle Kwan.

Not sure about Katarina and Janet, they were before my time, especially Janet. But I do agree that Tara and Michelle seemed to really enjoy skating. I'd also add Katia Gordeeva and the American ice dancing team from a few years ago (forgot their names), both had dark hair, married couple. SLC was their last Olympics. Anyway, they seemed to enjoy skating.

I believe you mean Beata Handra and Charles Sinek; and given how long (him especially) they kept at it before FINALLY making a team on that level, I'd have to agree.

The mention of Handra and Sinek made me think of Punsalan and Swallow. I always enjoyed watching them very much, and think they enjoyed skating for skating's sake, too.

Tomas Verner! I always enjoy watching him, he skates with so much fun. His new SP and FS are my favorite of the season.

And Kurt Browning! His singing in the rain is the most classic example of happy skating.

I think most people agree Kurt Browning loves to skate but I had to share this quote anyway. From an article covering his world fs hall of fame induction last year:

He talked about stopping at a frozen pond in Ontario while driving home alone to Toronto two years ago.

"I saw a lake and stopped and skated for 2 1-2 hours. As I was skating backwards I was gouging the ice out, and the ice would come up and make rainbows because the sun was shining.

"It sounds like a romance novel, but skating is going to be with me always. After all this stuff is done and you guys don't want to talk to me anymore and nobody cares, I can still - if I'm able - get on ice and skate.

"It's a gift. I hope my kid learns to skate - not great - but I really hope he can learn to appreciate how great skating is. I just love it. I still love it."

I figure anyone who randomly gets out of his car in the middle of Ontario and skates for a couple hours on a frozen pond with no one around must love skating =).

Heh it is a lovely story, but I have to confess when I first read it, practical me was like "OMG! what if he fell through the ice?? No one would know what happened to him!" ;)

Ice gets pretty darn thick up here in Canada - I'm sure Kurt doesn't weigh as much as a snow mobile!!! Nice of you to be concerned for our beloved Kurt though:)

Definitely Janet Lynn, Michelle Kwan, and Robin Cousins for me, right off the top of my head..........42
