Who Could Do A Program With No Jumps...

Just call this "Auntie El's favorite skaters". (really, Jason, Kevin, Anthony, well you get the idea)

Two that have not been mentioned (apologies if I missed them)

Toller:bow: (there are whole television specials, back when they had them, of surrealistic skating and not so much jumping)

Andrew Torgashev

All of the above, really. :love2:
What makes me happy is that in this year's GPF there are quite a number of women with the potential to land in that list.

I mean, I could watch Kaori skate crossovers for 5 minutes and wouldn't be bored. She's the skater who more than anyone else makes me want to put on skates and try for myself (and promptly fail).

I remember someone mentioning that they could watch Shoma just skate around the rink in circles and never get bored and I do quite agree.

There is just something so natural about his musicality and the smoothness of his skating that really makes the audience hold their breaths.

His SP at the 2023 Nationals truly felt like a religious experience 🙂

I am in love with Megalovania from RE_PRAY, which - after that first spellbinding segment in silence except for the amplified sound of skates on ice - is all about spins. And COiNTU of course included all his famous programs sans jumps because of ankle :)

I think Javi may have done a show one based on flamenco which had few jumps and could have taken them out.

Another vote for Sasha Cohen and Mai Mihara, oh and Satoko!
Oh, yes, I love Megalovania, too and I was trying to find it yesterday in some open source like YouTube to link it here but failed. But yes, it is a wonderful program with no jumps at all showing Yuzu does not need them to keep the audience on their toes and screaming in excitement. The silent intro is amazing...

And talking about Yuzuru shows, there is this mesmerizing "Fire Dance" by Shae Lynn Bourne from Yuzuru's Notte Stellata charity show but I think she had done it before for some other shows. This really shows what a solo ice dancer can do without even one glance towards jumps.

Well y'all have named just about every skater. Many of them - to me- would be a stretch. Right now I would say Kevin Aymoz ond Jason Brown. It would have to be someone that has innate ability and the utmost grace and doesn't have to rely on choreography to deliver the program. Actually - ANY skater can do a program without jumps - but do you want to watch it? Yes if it's ypur favorite skater, right? Reading back through some of these posts it strikes me that favorites are listed - not necessarily in keeping with the theme of the thread.

For me, it’s not just ability and grace, it’s a natural freedom of movement in skating skills with an abundance of transitions and high quality audience engagement that comes through their performance. In this thread assignment, we are prioritizing the emphasis on their spins, footwork, and all PCS components. I realize this is subjective as it comes up in our forum posts all the time while viewing a competition. One poster can see a thrilling style and program in Skater A, which would bore me to tears, and vice versa. As I type this, I am kicking myself that I just realized I left out Alissa Czisny and Angela Nikodinov, so going to add them to my list now. Their awareness of body movement and spinning ability were first rate.

It’s not necessary that the skaters listed have all of the traits I have mentioned in this post, but the main objective is that you don’t bore your audience.

Right, Kaori, more than anyone skating today aside from Mai Mihara, truly exudes the pure joy and freedom of skating!

Katherine Healy was an amazing ballerina who skated or a skater who did ballet:
Here she is at age 11 (choreography by John Curry).

By the way, choreographer Lori Nichol once skated in Curry's touring company as a pro.
