Women and the triple Axel

It seems like there were so many Junior competitions in which Rika was expected to medal, and yet fell out of the top three after botching the 3A-even though she would land one after the other on warmup. She sacrificed an awful lot of medals in order to attempt it. Maybe that is why the 3A is exciting-the risk factor involved. In the SP-land it -you are at the top. Miss it and you are down around 5th.

I think that effort paid off though. Working through problems with that jump as a junior surely helped it become more solid once she became a senior.

Agreed. She was able to work through the kinks then instead of now, so while others like Wakaba, Sasha, Mana, and Young You (potentially even Aliona when she starts attempting it again and Kamila when she debuts hers) are only able to attempt one or two a competition and are either still trying to get their first ratified clean attempt or are still trying to get it consistent Rika will be comfortably planning three triple axels in per competition. (Admittedly we haven’t seen her compete yet but it seems like a safe assumption based on what we’ve seen: she was already posting triple axels after about a week when she first got back on ice and we’ve seen plenty of triple axels, some from steps even, and triple axel triple toes)

Rika sacrificed alot of medals for the sake of the 3A, but it paid off in the end. Now it is as consistent as a 3A can be. It is such a difficult jump to depend upon-even for the men. All my respect for the women who dare to try.

What an easy looking jump for her. Good job. Who is her coach? Imagine if an Eteri got her hands on her. She'd actually have a program with choreography. This program was just skate, jump, skate, jump, etc with zero connection to the music.
