"Granite" to me immediately means the Rubislaw Quarry in Aberdeen, which is now a tourist attraction and is about 400 ft deep. When my father was growing up there, it was still a working quarry fascinating to little boys. My grandmother said that was when her hair turned white, when she found out her three sons were playing with their school friends there, daring each other to get as close to the edge as they could before a foreman chased them off :jaw:
